Background
xTool X1 is a precision laser processing device. It is built around a CO₂ flying optics system, can be fitted with an optional galvo module and galvo sources, and relies on its cameras and dot laser for positioning and distance measurement. Its processing accuracy depends on several relationships staying consistent:
- between where the laser lands and the mechanical coordinates;
- between the focus height and the measurement data;
- between the camera image and the actual processing position;
- between the CO₂ optical path and the galvo optical path.
When you replace or reinstall the main control board, an optical component, a laser source, a camera, the galvo module, or a similar part, or after the device has been shipped a long distance, the mounting position of a part, the angle of the optical path, or the saved calibration data may change. Even changes too small to see can cause:
- the processing position to shift;
- the focus to be inaccurate, which degrades the processing result;
- the camera preview to differ from the actual processing position;
- lines to be misaligned when CO₂ and galvo processing are combined.
After any of the operations listed below, run the matching calibrations again. Put the device back into production only after a test task confirms the result is normal.
General requirements
- Where several calibrations are listed, run them in the order given.
- After calibration, run a test task and make sure that the processing position, the focus, and the alignment of combined processing are all correct.
- If a calibration fails, or the test task goes wrong, stop processing. Note which calibration failed and what the message said, then contact xTool technical support for further help.
Calibrations required for each scenario
Replacing the main control board
Run the complete initialization calibration:
- Basic calibration: Vibration Suppression Calibration, Dot Laser Full-Range Calibration, Bed leveling (baseplate leveling)
- Optical path calibration: CO₂ optical path alignment. If a galvo source is installed, also run galvo source optical path alignment
- Focus calibration
- Whole-device coordinate calibration: camera calibration, flying galvo calibration

Replacing or reinstalling the dot laser assembly
This includes the close-view camera, the close-up fill light and its cable, the dot laser module, the x-axis limit switch, and the ranging camera and its cable.
Note
Select the option to recalibrate the measurement reference data.

Replacing or reinstalling the distant-view camera

Replacing or reinstalling the galvo module
- Backpack optical path alignment (if a galvo source is installed)
- Focus calibration
- Flying galvanometer calibration

Replacing or reinstalling the CO2 laser tube
Note
After you adjust the CO₂ optical path, the point where the CO₂ laser lands may shift slightly, by up to about 0.5 mm.
If the galvo module is installed, this shift changes the relative position of the CO₂ and galvo paths, so lines from CO₂ and galvo processing may be misaligned in combined tasks. If you see obvious misalignment in a test task, run camera calibration and flying galvo calibration again.
