Overview
Purpose
After installing the galvo source (also referred to as the “backpack” in this article), you can perform the backpack optical path alignment as part of the xTool X1 calibration procedure. It adjusts the reflector angles so the laser travels along the center path, correcting optical path offset.
When to use
If you are using the device for the first time, backpack optical path alignment is included in the initialization calibration process.
If you are not using the device for the first time, perform this procedure in any of the following situations:
- The galvo source (also referred to as the “backpack” in this article) has been replaced or removed.
- The light spot has shifted.
- No laser is emitted.
If you are unsure whether backpack optical path alignment is needed, proceed under the guidance of after-sales support.
After backpack optical path alignment is complete, the device automatically performs the following calibrations in order:
- Focus calibration
- Machine coordinate calibration
Alignment procedure
0.1 Before you start
Before starting the procedure, complete the following preparations:
- Install xTool X1, the 20W diode galvo module, and the galvo source.
- Download and install the xTool software on your computer.
- Connect xTool X1 to the computer using a USB cable.
- Connect xTool X1 in the software.
0.2 Enter the procedure
💡 The interface screenshots in this article are for reference only. Refer to the actual software interface.
In the top-right corner of the software, click the device settings icon.

- First-time use: Click Calibration > Initialization Calibration. After completing the preceding calibration items, you will enter backpack optical path alignment.
- Not first-time use: Click Calibration > Backpack optical path alignment to enter this procedure directly.
After entering the calibration procedure, you can first familiarize yourself with the following interface areas:

① Procedure navigation: Shows the calibration items in the overall calibration procedure and the stages included in the current calibration item. You can check the current progress and return to completed items or stages.
② Operation guide: Shows the instructions for the current step using videos or images.
③ Steps: Shows the specific steps included in the current calibration stage. When an action or confirmation is required, the corresponding step displays an operation button. Click a completed step to return to it and review or perform the operation again.
④ Exit initialization: Click to exit the procedure.
⑤ Next: After completing all steps in the current stage, click to proceed to the next stage.
1. Preparation
Watch the instruction video and prepare the following items:
- Masking tape (included with xTool X1)
- Calibration fixture (included with the galvo source)
When you are ready, click Done > Next.

2. First-stage alignment
2.1 Move laser head
Click Move. The laser head automatically moves to the alignment position.

2.2 Place the fixture and apply masking tape
Apply masking tape to the fixture. Secure the fixture into the mounting hole near the steering mirror mount for galvo source on xTool X1.
After securing the fixture, click Done.

2.3 Turn on the laser
Click Turn on to start laser emission.
⚠️ Don't let the low-power laser touch your skin. You can open the lid to watch it, but don't shine it into your eyes.

2.4 Adjust the mirror
Open the lid and check whether the light spot is centered in the aperture.
- If the light spot is centered: No adjustment is required. Click At center.

- If the light spot is not centered: Click Not at center, and adjust the optical path as follows:
a. Open the cover of the galvo source.

b. Press and turn the upper-right or lower-left beam steering knob to move the light spot until it is centered.
⚠️ Do not operate the upper-left beam steering knob by yourself.

c. Click At center > Next.
3. Second-stage alignment
The steps in this stage are basically the same as those in first-stage alignment. Follow the on-screen instructions and note the following differences:
- Fixture position: Insert the fixture into the laser input window on the left side of the 20W diode galvo module.

- Steering knob position: Use the steering knobs near the steering mirror mount for galvo source on xTool X1.

4. Calibration result
Remove the fixture and follow the on-screen instructions to complete backpack optical path alignment.
