This article applies to

xTool S1 with all laser module

Issue description

After marking the processing area, you may notice that the actual engraved result is not centered within the marked region.

Specifically, the engraved design appears to be offset from the intended placement. For example:

  • In xTool Creative Space (XCS) software, you used the "Mark processing area" feature to designate the processing region and placed the design file in the center of the circular positioning frame.
  • However, the actual engraving pattern appears to deviate from your designated area, as shown in the images below.

Possible causes

Engraving misalignment may occur in different scenarios:

Scenario 1: Snapshot preview (for XCS mobile)

  • Outdated Software Algorithm

Scenario 2: Mark processing area (for XCS PC)

  • User Operation Errors
  • Hardware Malfunction

Troubleshooting

Scenario 1: Snapshot preview (XCS mobile)

Snapshot preview relies on the XCS mobile app and your smartphone’s camera to position the material. If the engraving misalignment issue occurs when using this feature, follow these steps:

STEP1: Update XCS mobile

  • Ensure that your XCS mobile software is updated to the latest version to benefit from ongoing algorithm optimizations.

Navigate to Settings > About > Software Version to check for updates.

STEP2: Stick to the outermost edge

  • Ensure that the DIY stickers are placed on the outermost edge of your S1 baseplate. Refer to the image below for more details.

STEP3: Center the crosshair

  • During laser module calibration on XCS mobile, ensure the center point of the laser module's red crosshair is perfectly aligned with the middle of the stickers for better accuracy.

STEP4: Adjust photography technique

  • Stand directly in front of the machine, ensuring your smartphone is parallel to the laser device's baseplate. This minimizes perspective distortion.

STEP5: Center design elements

  • Place all designs in the center of the XCS canvas for improved accuracy.

Scenario 2: Mark processing area (XCS PC)

STEP1: Reduce marking speed

  • After marking the first point, wait 5 seconds before marking the next point.
  • This delay helps improve the accuracy of the positioning process.

STEP2: Re-mark processing area

  • Follow the instructions in the previous step and attempt to mark the processing area again.
  • Ensure that the red crosshair of the laser module is aligned with the edges of the material during the marking process.

STEP3: Switch marking shape

  • If misalignment still persists, try using a different shape, such as a rectangular marking shape, to define the processing area.

STEP4: Cross-test with a different laser module

  • If both a 455nm diode laser module and a 1064nm infrared laser module are available, try swapping between the two. This will help identify if the issue is related to a specific module.
  • If the offset issue is isolated to a particular laser module, it could indicate a malfunction. In this case, contact xTool Customer Service and provide detailed information for further assistance.

If the issue persists?

If none of the above solutions resolve the issue, please gather the following information and contact xTool Customer Service at xtool@support.com for further assistance:

  • A video and photos of the issue showing the engraving misalignment; and
  • Your original project file.
