Use xTool Hot Foil Pen with M1 Ultra in xTool Creative Space (XCS)

Overview

This manual provides step-by-step instructions for installing, setting up, and using xTool Hot Foil Pen with your M1 Ultra in xTool Creative Space (XCS).

 

STEP 1 Connect xTool M1 Ultra to XCS

  • Connect the Device: Use the USB cable to connect your xTool M1 Ultra to your computer. Power on the M1 Ultra.

  • Open XCS: Open xTool Creative Space (XCS) on your computer. Click the + New Project button in the top-right corner.
  • Connect Device in XCS: On the right side of the project editing page, click Connect Device.

Note: If you have connected an xTool device in XCS before, click the   icon > Connect device.

 

STEP 2 Install xTool Hot Foil Pen

  1. Install Cable Bracket: Install the cable bracket first.

     
  1. Secure the Pen: Right-align the parts in the two dashed boxes and fully tighten the two screws.

 

  1. Prepare the Basic Carriage: Remove the front cover of the basic carriage and release the locking clamp.


     
  2. Insert the Pen: Install the pen into the carriage's locking clamp and secure it. Ensure the button on the pen with the xTool label faces you.


     
  3. Route the Cable: Pass the connection cable of the pen through the cable bracket.

     
  4. Connect the Cable: Insert the connection cable of xTool Hot Foil Pen into the Rotary Attachment port inside xTool M1 Ultra.


     

Note: When using an electrostatic mat, insert the connection cable of the hot foil pen into the extension port of the electrostatic mat.

 

STEP 3 Prepare the material

  1. Open the Lid: Open the lid of your xTool M1 Ultra.
  2. Select Processing Surface: You can use either an Electrostatic Mat or a cutting mat as your processing surface.
  3. Place Material and Foil: Place your processing material on the chosen mat, before positioning a piece of foil paper on top of the material. Use stickers (included in your package) to secure the foil paper (included in your package) to the material.





     

 

STEP 4 Preheat xTool Hot Foil Pen

  1. Start Heating: Press the button on xTool Hot Foil Pen to start heating the tip. Refer to Image 2.
  2. Wait: The heating time may vary depending on the environment. Wait one to two minutes before processing.
Notes:
  • ⚠️ The Hot Foil Pen tip is hot after heating. DO NOT touch it.
  • When using the ink module during processing, avoid intertwining its connection cable with your xTool Hot Foil Pen's cable.

 

STEP 5 Select the processing mode & material in XCS

  • Select Hot Foil Pen Mode: At the top of the XCS canvas, select Hot Foil Pen as the processing mode.


     
  • Select Material Thickness: Choose an appropriate material thickness, either greater than or less than 3 mm.


     
  • Select Material Name: In the top right corner of User-defined Material, select the name of your material and click Confirm. Refer to Images 3 & 4.
    • Click More xTool materials in the bottom left corner to search for more materials.
    • If you can't find the name of your material, select User-defined Material.


 

STEP 6 Measure the distance

You can set the distance using Z-Axis Movement or Auto-Measure.

Option 1: By Z-axis movement

  1. Select Material Thickness: Select the material thickness in XCS.




     
  1. Position the Pen: Ensure your xTool Hot Foil Pen is positioned over the material.
  2. Start Measurement: Click the    icon to begin the measurement process.


     
  1. Adjust the Distance: Click the up / down arrow buttons to adjust the distance until the tip of your xTool Hot Foil Pen is just about to touch the surface of the material.
    Distance Units:
    ①: Use the slider or select a number to set the distance unit; or
    ②: Click    or    to adjust the distance. 
    ③: Click to perform the z-axis homing.

     
  1. Confirm: When the distance is set correctly, click Confirm. Now your distance setting is complete.

 

Option 2: By auto-measure

  1. Select Material Thickness: Select the material thickness in XCS.


     
  1. Install Laser Module: Ensure you have installed a laser module and move it over the material.
  1. Start Auto-Measure: Click the icon     to start measuring automatically.


     
  1. Complete: The distance will be set automatically upon successful measurement.


STEP 7 Mark the processing area on the canvas

  • Click the Flag: Click the flag icon on the toolbar on top of the canvas to mark the processing area.
     

  • Select Marking Mode: Select a marking mode that corresponds to the shape of your desired processing area and click Start marking.



    Subsequently, a pop-up window will appear as follows.


     
  • Manual Point Marking: Manually move the laser module to position the red crosshair at a corner (vertex) of your desired processing area. Press the Point marking button on M1 Ultra device to record the position.
  • Repeat: Repeat the previous step to record the remaining required corner points.
  • Complete Marking: After marking at least two points, click End marking > Done. The target processing area will now be outlined on the canvas.



 

STEP 8 Edit objects & set parameters

  • Create or Import Objects: Use the tools on the left side of the XCS canvas to create objects.


💡 Note: You can import images, insert shapes, enter text, draw vector graphics, and so on. For more information on how to use XCS to design objects, see Software Learning Center.

Set Object Parameters: Select an object on the canvas and set its parameters.

 
📌 Notes:
  • When you select a material from the material list or material library, XCS automatically sets processing parameters.
  • These default settings are designed for xTool materials. You can adjust them to fit your specific needs.
  • If you select User-defined Material, you must set the processing parameters manually.


STEP 9 Preview the processing area

  • Position Laser Module: Move the laser module over the material, ensuring the red crosshair falls on the material's surface.
  • Close Lid: Close the lid of M1 Ultra.
  • Set Framing Speed: At the bottom right corner of XCS, click the    icon next to the framing button to set the framing speed.


     
  • Start Framing: Click Framing in XCS, and press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start framing the processing area.



     
  • Confirm Area: After you confirm that the processing area is correct, click Framing Completed in XCS.


     

STEP 10 Start processing

  • Click Process: At the bottom right corner of the XCS interface, click Process.


     
  • Accessory Check: Check the list on the right to ensure all required accessories and modules are installed and prepared.


     
  • Preview Processing Path: In the bottom left corner, click the  button to view the processing path. XCS will display the path.
  • Start the Process: In the upper right corner of XCS, click Start to begin processing.


     
  • Begin Processing on M1 Ultra: When everything is ready, press the button on your xTool M1 Ultra to initiate the process.
