The Laser Positioning Offset of xTool S1 Explained

This article applies to:

xTool S1 with all laser modules.

About This Guide

The laser positioning offset is very important for the machine to function well.

When we talk about this offset value, there are actually two types of it.

  • The "Red Cross - Laser Output" Offset
  • The "Red Cross - Distance Sensor" Offset

Each of them plays a unique role in the positioning of the laser module.

This guide will explain to you what they are and how they work.

Note: Unlike the xTool D series, the S1 model doesn't have a laser spot positioning light.

The "Red Cross - Laser Output" Offset

On the bottom of the laser module, you can see a distance between the red cross positioning light and the laser output.

This distance is called the "Red Cross - Laser Output" offset.

When you use the red cross positioning light in the framing setting on XCS, you can determine the processing area. Based on the starting point of that area, the laser module will move according to preset offset coordinates before the lasering process starts, which will cancel off the distance difference.

The "Red Cross - Laser Output" offset value

Laser Module Model
Offset Value
A 10W Laser Module
Y -21.8mm
A 20W Laser Module
Y -21.8mm
A 40W Laser Module
Y -26.4mm
A 2W Infrared Laser Module
Y -20mm

Note: XCS has a built-in function to cancel off the distance offset. If you use Lightburn, please configure it manually per this guide.

The "Red Cross - Distance Sensor" Offset

You can see a distance between the red cross positioning light and the distance sensor.

This distance is called the "Red Cross - Distance Sensor" offset.

The laser module needs to move downwards to measure the focus distance before the processing. Since there is an offset between it and the laser output, the laser module will move according to preset offset coordinates to cancel off the distance difference.

The "Red Cross - Distance Sensor" offset value

Laser Module Specification
Offset Value
A 10W Laser Module
X -21.5mm
A 20W Laser Module
X -21.5mm; Y +0.5mm
A 40W Laser Module
X -21.5mm; Y +12.9mm
A 2W Infrared Laser Module
X -29mm; Y +2mm

Note: XCS has a built-in function to cancel off the distance offset. If you use Lightburn, please configure it manually per this guide.
