Why does Origin change between Slats Flat and Open Plane

I bought a P2 machine early Jan 2024, so I'm still experimenting… When using XCS software with the typical option of “Slats Flat”, the 0,0 coordinate is about 0.75" from the left wall of the machine's cavity and about 1.625" from the back wall of the cavity.  But if you choose the “Open Plane” option in order to work with projects thicker than about 1" (using the Riser base) the origin is shifted about 2" to the right, and about 0.1" further away from the back wall.

Processing a project using the two different methods changes where the pattern is actually burned in physical space.  This is very problematic when designing and testing on plywood or cardboard (in Slats Flat), then changing over to execute the pattern in Open Plane for the actual article (say a 4" tall box).

Is this a bug in the XCS software, or by design?  If by design, why?
