Updated Dec 20,2023

Issue Description

After powering the device P2 on and connecting it to the computer with a USB cable, the machine's name can't be found in the device list under the USB option in XCS, as shown below.

#1 Check the USB Cable Connection

  1. Check and make sure the connection is secure.
  2. Replug the USB cable at both ends if necessary.

#2 Malfunctioning USB Cable or Computer USB Port

  1. Replace the USB cable, the USB port, and the computer port.
  2. Turn on the device and launch XCS.
  3. Check if the driver application of P2 exists in the following ways.
For Windows:
  1. Right-click the start button on your computer.
  2. Click Device Manager
  3. Click Network adapters and check if the USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget exists.

For Mac:
  1. Click System Information
  2.  Go to Hardware and click USB
  3.  Check if the RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget exists.

#3 Check VPN

Exit the VPN software and try again.

#4 Check the Driver Program

Install the driver as instructed below and try again:
  • Driver for Windows: DPInsts.rar
  • Download and unzip the driver, choose the corresponding application, and double-click it to install.

#5 Check Ping

  1. The firewall may disable ping.
  2. Click the Right Button to Run XCS in Administrator Mode.
  3. Allow this permission (Norton for example).

#6 Check SIP

If the MAC system is under SIP protection, the device may be blocked and can't be connected.

Refer to the following steps to disable SIP.

  1. Turn off the computer. Press down the Command, R keys, and the power button to enter the interface below.

  1. Go to Utilities and click Terminal.

  1. Input "csrutil disable" and press the Enter key.

  1. When you see the message saying that "System Integrity Protection is off", the SIP is disabled successfully. Restart the computer.

#7 Check "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget"

  1. Click System Preferences> Network.
  2. Check if "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" is on the list.
  • If yes, there should be no problem with the USB connection.
  • If not, create one by referring to the steps below:

  1. Connect your Mac and P2 via the original USB cable, then click "+".

  1. Click and select RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget.

  1. Click "Apply".

  1. Once the RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget is created, connecting to P2 via USB will be established automatically.

#8 Check the Compatibility of the Cable

P2 does not support a double-end USB-C cable. Please connect P2 using the original USB-A cable or a USB-C to the USB-A docking station instead.

#9 Check the System Account Authority

In some cases, the system account you are using may be a guest account. Please right-click and start the XCS software as an administrator.

#10 Check the Extension Cable

  • Refer to the video tutorial and remove the left upper cover of P2: https://support.xtool.com/article/949
  • Unplug the extension cable on the main control board.
  • Insert the USB cable directly into the port on the board.
  • If the machine successfully connects to the computer with the USB cable directly, it indicates that the extension cable is faulty and should be replaced.
