This article explains how to create heat transfer designs with the xTool C1 Color Cutter (hereinafter referred to as the xTool C1) and transfer them onto fabric using a heat press or iron.
Preparations
๐ You can purchase the processing tools, pens, and materials you need at xtool.com.
- xTool C1
- xTool C1 cutting mat or electrostatic mat
- xTool C1 fine-point blade
- xTool C1 ink cartridge
- Weeding tool
- Heat press or iron
- Materials to be processed. The following materials are recommended.
- Heat transfer vinyl (HTV)
- DURA doodle & print transfer paper for dark fabric
- DURA doodle & print transfer paper for light fabric
๐ DURA doodle & print transfer paper for dark fabric and DURA doodle & print transfer paper for light fabric should be used with heat transfer release paper.
Procedure
1. Connect xTool C1 and the software
Refer to "Connect xTool C1 to the software" complete the connection.
2. Load the material
DURA doodle & print transfer paper
Attach the material to the cutting mat or electrostatic mat, then load the cutting mat into xTool C1.
๐ The soft side of the transfer paper is the printing side and should face up when placed.
HTV
Attach the material to the cutting mat or electrostatic mat, then load the cutting mat into xTool C1.
๐ The matte side of HTV is the printing side, while the smooth side is the release liner. Ensure the matte side faces up when printing.
3. Design processing objects
(1) Click Mode and select Iron-On Apparel.
(2) Use the tools in the left pane to design objects.
๐ Note: You can import images, insert shapes, enter text, AI-generated designs, and so on.
4. Set processing parameters
(1) Select the objects, set the processing parameters for each one, then click Make.
(2) Click Material, select the material type, then click Apply.
๐ - If you are using xTool official materials, the material can be identified automatically. Click Apply in the pop-up window.
- If you are printing on HTV, the design must be mirrored. Once you select the material type, the system will automatically enable mirroring. If the design is facing the wrong way, check the mirror function on the processing preparation page.
5. Install processing tools and complete the processing
(1) Follow the prompts in the Pre-processing Check section to install the required processing tools. After the processing tool status shows as normal, click Start.
(2) When the interface indicates that processing is ready, press the multifunction button on xTool C1 and wait for the tasks to finish.
(3) (Optional) Follow the software prompts to change the processing tools and press the multifunction button on xTool C1 to complete the remaining tasks.
(4) After all the tasks are finished, click Finished and press the multifunction button on xTool C1 to eject the cutting mat. Then, remove your works.
6. Transfer the printed designs to fabrics.
For DURA doodle & print transfer paper
(1) Iron the fabric flat. Peel the design from the backing paper and place it in the desired position with the printed design facing up.
(2) Cover the design with the heat transfer release paper and heat press at 160ยฐC with a pressure of at least 20 kg for 10 seconds.
(3) After transfer, remove the heat transfer release paper. Wait 24โ48 hours and wash the fabric for the first time.
For HTV
(1) Use the weeding tool provided to remove debris around the designs. (2) Lay the fabric flat on a table or heat press, then place the printed design on the fabric, making sure the side with the release liner faces up. (3) Heat press at 150ยฐC with a pressure of at least 20 kg for 15 seconds. (4) After heat pressing, wait for the material to cool completely and peel off the release liner.
