Resolve White Stripes in Inkjet Printed Patterns for M1 Ultra

Issue description

If you encounter white streaks in inkjet-printed patterns, consult this guide for troubleshooting steps.

Why does it happen

  • During the inkjet printing process, the ink module methodically deposits ink line-by-line from the bottom upwards. As part of this operation, two rollers traverse the material’s surface. This can occasionally produce faint streaks on the final print. While these streaks are generally subtle, their visibility can be diminished by increasing the print density setting.
  • Specifically, this issue can typically be attributed to two main factors:
  1. Ink Viscosity: Over time, ink may thicken and obstruct the nozzle plate of the ink cartridge, impeding the smooth flow required for even printing.
  2. Material Characteristics: The inherent properties of the printing material, notably its color and texture, can significantly sway print quality. Variations in these attributes may lead to the appearance of streaks.

How to fix it

#1 Clean the ink nozzle

  1. Dab a paper towel with a small amount of warm water.
  2. Gently press the nozzle plate of the ink cartridge onto the paper towel. Repeat this several times until the ink flow is smooth and saturated.

  3. For more detailed maintenance, refer to the video tutorial below.
  4. If the ink has significantly solidified, soak the nozzle in a small amount of warm water for 2-3 minutes.

  5. Dry the nozzle thoroughly before resuming printing.
  6. Note: The first print after soaking may show variations in color density. Perform a test print to ensure even ink flow.

#2 Inspect the material

  • Examine the material for inherent textures or patterns, such as color variations or uneven surfaces, which may lead to white stripes in the printed output.
  • Materials with these characteristics can cause unintended printing issues. Therefore, it is advisable to select materials that have smooth and consistent surfaces to ensure optimal results.
