S1 Flame Sensor Explained

xTool S1 with all laser modules.

Things to know first

S1 is equipped with five sensors designed for flame detection. Notably, the flame sensors are dedicated to detecting the wavelength of flames, while the temperature sensor monitors the flame's temperature. In combination, the flame and temperature sensor identifies fires through the simultaneous analysis of flame wavelength and temperature.

Their details are shown below:

  • Four flame sensors are positioned below the front and rear light strips of the machine.

  • One flame and temperature sensor is located on the laser module.

To ensure your seamless experience with the fire safety feature, this article highlights the following aspects for your reference. If you want to know how to tackle false fire alarm or related issues, please see these sources:

#1 About XCS

  • When the XCS software version is below V1.6, only the flame and temperature sensor on the laser module is operational. The machine will sound the alarm if flames or sparks are detected. However, if the Fire Safety Set is connected to S1, coordination between them won't be established, resulting in no CO2 gas extinguishing the fires.
  • When the XCS software version is above V1.6, all sensors for flame detection are active, significantly enhancing flame detection sensitivity. Upon identifying flames, the machine will sound the alarm. Moreover, if the Fire Safety Set is connected to S1, coordination between them will be established to emit CO2 gas to put out fires.

Note: For reliable flame detection, xTool recommends maintaining the latest versions of both the XCS software and machine hardware.

#2 About Fire Safety Set

If the S1 is connected to the Fire Safety Set, you won't need to use the Smart Switch, Sensor Hub, and cable clamp from the Fire Safety Set. Instead, you'll require the following:

  • One air tube for connecting to the Fire Safety Set
  • One connection cable for linking S1 with the Fire Safety Set (same type of connection cable for the Air Assist Set)

#3 About flame alarm

You can enjoy the flexibility to fine-tune flame detection sensitivity in XCS by adjusting the flame alarm settings based on your preference — either increasing, decreasing, or disabling it. However, please note that when the flame alarm is disabled, S1 won't issue an alert in the event of fires.

Additionally, when processing with the 2W infrared laser module, it's important to be aware that the flame alarm won't be activated. This is because the module's wavelength (1064nm) falls within the flame sensor's detection range, rendering it almost impossible for the sensor to differentiate between the wavelength of the flame and that of the infrared laser module.

#4 About alarm level

Given the disposable nature of the gas bottle in the Fire Safety Set, xTool defines Level 1 and Level 2 alarms for this system. The details are as follows:

  • Level 1 alarm (for small sparks): Only the alarm is sounded without CO2 gas release.
  • Level 2 alarm (for open flames): The alarm goes off and CO2 gas jets out to extinguish fires.
