How to Calibrate the Auto-Measure for xTool M1
Updated Dec 19,2023

About The Guide

Applicable Scenario

  • The M1's automatic measurement error is too large.
  • The M1 is unable to perform automatic measurements due to the loss of calibration files.

Warning: Calibration changes system data permanently. Be careful, as original data can't be recovered. If unsure about calibration necessity, contact xTool support with measurement errors for assistance.

Note: To test for measurement errors, place a flat material up to 15mm thick on the baseplate in laser flat mod, avoiding transparent, dark, or shiny materials. Use the automatic measurement function and compare the value to the material's actual thickness; the difference should usually be less than 1mm.

Things Needed

  • A computer with Windows 10 operating system.
  • Flat, non-transparent materials (3mm thick, over 80mm*80mm). Here we use basswood board as an example.
  • The project file for creating the square materials for calibration.
  • The calibration program.

How to Calibrate

1. Download the calibration software and extract it to a disk other than the C drive on the computer (some admin settings may prohibit software from accessing C drive files);

2. Connect M1 to your computer via USB, open the XCS file for cutting the squares for calibration;

3. Cut out the squares and have them ready for the calibration later.

4. Open the folder where you extracted the calibration program and run MaterialThickCalib.exe as admin.

5. Keep the lid open during calibration. Click "Connect" in the calibration program.

6. Click "Apply" to set the exposure, usually keeping the default exposure is fine, at which point the supplementary LED light will automatically turn off, ensuring the red dot is clearly visible in the view.

7. Place the first square on the baseplate, ensuring the red dot is in the center of the square.

8. Click the first "Calib" calibration button.

9. Place the second square on top of the first, ensuring the red dot is in the center as well.

10. Click the second “Calib” button.

11. Continue to place the third square on top of the second one, and so on for the rest of the “Calib” buttons. After all "Calib" buttons are green, click "Generate Calib File".

12. Check the calibration curve.

  • If the red rectangles are all on the blue line, please proceed to the next step.
  • If any red rectangle severely deviates from the blue line, please restart the program and recalibrate.

13. Click "Update Calib File" to upload the calibration file and wait for the upload to complete.

14. Close the lid of M1, click "Measure" in the program. Check the "measure" value. If the error is within 1mm, then the calibration is successful, otherwise, please restart the program and recalibrate.

Note: Here the five squares stacked should be 15mm, and the "measure" says 15.33mm, which the error is 0.33mm, less than 1mm. The calibration is successful.
