I'm well aware of the dangers of engraving plastics with a laser. xTool has many resources explaining the dangers of the toxic gasses that creates. But I was under the impression that an IR laser could “mark” plastic surfaces safely. In fact, an xTool promo video touts how you can use the F1 on plastic. Marking, as I understand it, is a slightly different (less intense?) process that manipulates the appearance of the material surface. And yet the xtTool material settings page doesn't list this or show any applicable settings. So…what's the word on this? Can it or can't it? Should you or shouldn't you? I'm considering an IR-capable product, and that's the primary reason I would want one.
