Troubleshoot Auto-Measure Failure for M1
Updated Nov 18,2024
Updated Nov 18,2024

Issue description

  • When clicking on the "Auto-measure" button, if you encounter a pop-up error message hinting "Auto-measure failed," please refer to this article for troubleshooting.

Why it happens

  1. M1's lid is not closed properly.
  2. Material to be processed is placed beyond the focus range for auto-measure.
  3. The surrounding lighting is too strong.
  4. The material to be processed is red, transparent, or highly reflective.
  5. The hall switch connection cable is loose or the hall switch has broken down.
  6. The auto-measure light malfunctions.
  7. M1's camera refresh may be glitching.

How to fix it

#1 Check the lid

  • Check if the lid is closed properly; otherwise, auto-measure cannot proceed.
    • If not, close it properly.
  • If this is not the case, proceed to the next step.

#2 Check the material height

  • If this is not the case, move to the next step.

#3 Check the surround lighting

  1. Check if M1 is operating in excessively bright surroundings.
  2. As direct intense lighting on the lid of M1 will interrupt auto-measure, it is advisable to avoid operating M1 under excessively strong lighting.
  3. If this is not the case, move to the next step.

#4 Check the material

  • Check if the material to be processed is red, transparent, or highly reflective, since the color and property of the material will affect auto-measure.
    • If so, place a piece of white paper on the material or manually measure the thickness with a ruler.
  • If this is not the case, proceed to the next step.

#5 Check the hall switch

  • Open the lid to hear if there's a "beep" sound.
    1. If yes, this rules out the hall switch malfunctions. Proceed to the next troubleshooting step.
    2. If not, this indicates either the hall switch connection cable is loose or the hall switch has broken down (only in rare cases).
      • Replug the hall switch connection cable or replace it with a new one. For more details, refer to the video tutorial below.

#6 Check the auto-measure light

  • Check if there's a red spot (refer to the picture above) on the baseplate from the auto-measure light when M1 is operating, as the auto-measure relies on this light for the calculation of material thickness by determining the distance from the material to the equipment.
    1. If yes, this means the auto-measure light is working properly. Proceed to the next step.
    2. If not, the auto-measure light cable plug may be loose. Follow the instructions below to secure it.
      1. Power M1 off.
      2. Flip M1 upside-down and remove the main control board protective cover.
      3. Cover the laser module with the baseplate.
      4. Reconnect the auto-measure light cable plug (see the picture below) and check if it goes on upon reboot.

#7 Check for camera refresh failure

  1. Reboot M1 and XCS to inspect for any camera refresh failure pop-up messages.
  2. If a message appears, follow the corresponding troubleshooting guide for advice: Troubleshoot Camera Refresh Failure for M1
  3. If this is not the case, continue to the next step.

#8 Further assistance

  1. If the issue persists despite following the above steps, export your M1's work log for further assistance.
  2. Save the work log file folder in your chosen directory. The work log will help the experts diagnose the issue.
  3. Contact xTool Customer Service at support@xtool.com with the work log and a video demonstrating the issue.
