This troubleshooting guide
applies to both Windows and macOS operating systems
Issue description
When your computer and M1 are powered on with a USB cable connected to both devices, M1 cannot be found in the device list within xTool Creative Space (XCS). Please refer to this guide for troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting
#1 Ensure full connection
Check if the USB connectors are loose on the ports of your computer or M1.
Unplug and replug both ends, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted.
Confirm that both ends of the USB cable are firmly connected to the ports on the computer and M1.
If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.
#2 Cross-test with another cable, port, or PC
Test with a different USB cable, USB port, or computer to rule out potential connection failures.
If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.
#3 Check for VPN interference
Verify if any VPN software is running, as it may prevent the M1 from accessing the correct IP address.
If VPN software is active, disable it before attempting to connect.
If this is not the case, move on to the next step.
#4 Check for essential drivers
Verify if essential drivers are missing or not installed properly.
If drivers are missing, connection issues may arise. In the “Developer Mode” tab (available only in XCS 2.1 or above), click the “Install” button to set up the essential drivers.
If this is not the case, proceed to the next step.
#5 Check for firewall blocking
Verify if your computer’s firewall disables Ping, as this will prevent external devices from detecting your computer through the Ping command.
To settle this, right-click on XCS and select "Run as administrator" to start the software.
Alternatively, enable Ping permissions for XCS. For example, with Norton firewall, adjust the permission settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.
#6 Check for M1's firmware
Inspect if M1 is operating properly by following the instructions below:
With M1 power off, bring the laser module to the lower-right corner before turning on the machine. Reboot the engraver to check:
If, upon powering on, M1 automatically resets the laser module, this signifies that the M1 is operating properly. Proceed to the next troubleshooting step.
If, however, the laser module does not retract with the physical start button light blinking in white, this indicates M1's firmware is lost.
#7 Check for driver connection conflict (mac OS only)
In the network settings, inspect if multiple "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" drivers appear。
If so, delete some of them and try connecting again.
If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
#8 Disable "System Integrity Protection" (mac OS only)
Power off your Mac. Press and hold the "Command + R" keys while pressing the power button to reboot the computer and enter the recovery screen.
Click "Utilities > Terminal".
Enter "csrutil disable" before pressing the "Enter" key.
After hitting the "Enter" key, if the screen shows "System Integrity Protection is off," the alternation is successful. Reboot the computer before connecting to M1.
#9 Activate "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" (mac OS only)
In the "System Preferences > Network", check the connection list on the left side to inspect the "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" network status.
If it is "Connected", the connection between your Mac computer and M1 via USB is working properly. Ensure proper USB connection.
If it is "Not Connected" (refer to the image below), create a connection manually by following the instructions below:
Connect M1 via USB and click the "+" icon.
In the dropdown list, select "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget." This option appears only when M1 is connected to your computer.
Maintain the default settings and click "Apply".
Once the "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" driver is created, it will automatically connect your computer to M1. The driver status will change to "Connected."
