Even with diffused radiation, certain lasers are capable of inflicting lasting eye damage or blindness!
When there's any chance that you could be exposed to laser radiation of any type, you should wear laser safety glasses.
Laser glasses should be worn at all times in the area of a laser.
It is measured in nanometers, and can help you select the proper lens to protect your eyes from the wavelength of your laser.
Optical density quantifies how much light transmitted from a specific wavelength is blocked (also referred to as attenuation) by the lens of laser safety glasses.
The higher the OD value, the better the attenuation and protection level.
The amount of light that reaches your eyes through the lens is called visible light transmission (VLT). Lighter lens tints have a higher VLT because more light passes through the lens.
In general, with a larger percentage VLT, it is easier to see through the lens in low-light settings, and more color passes through the lens.
If they don't fit, the goggles may not be able to protect your eyes efficiently, and it's not comfortable wearing them.
Below are two examples of xTool safety goggles.
The safety goggles can filter out light in the wavelength range of 190nm–460nm & 800nm–1100nm
Lens material: polycarbonate
Lens treatment: UV protective film coating
Protection wavelength: 190nm~460nm / 800nm~1100nm
Optical density: OD 6+
Visible light transmission rate (VLT): 45%
Test standard: EN 207:2017
Product size (including glasses case): 180mm*85mm*65mm
Gross weight: 215g
Net weight: 162g
The safety goggles can filter out light in the wavelength range of 180nm to 540nm.
Wearing safety goggles during laser processing can effectively protect your eyes.
Lens material: PC (polycarbonate)
Protection wavelength: 180nm to 540nm
Optical density: OD 5+
Visible light transmission rate (VLT): 35%
Product size: 170*55*85mm
Gross weight: 190g
Net weight: 141g
Besides, the protection wavelength of the goggles that come with the engraver are 400~500nm and their OD rating is 4+.
