Welcome, fellows! This guide includes the essentials of M1 maintenance, which helps you run the machine effectively. There are three parts in this article. Let’s dive right in!

  1. Device maintenance
  2. Laser lens cleaning
  3. Cutting mat maintenance

1. Device maintenance

Shaft maintenance:

The slide bars are chrome-plated shafts. You need to apply lubricant to them regularly to prevent rust.

It is recommended to lube them after you use the device for 15 days to 2 months. The y-axis shaft is inside the chassis of the device. Therefore, no maintenance is required.

Maintenance is required for the x-axis and z-axis shafts. You may refer to the instructions below according to the actual situation:

  • When the machine is frequently used, and runs for more than 8 hours per day, you need to lube them once in every 15 days at least.
  • When the machine is less frequently used, and runs less than 2 hours per day, lube them once in every 2 months at least.
  • When the shaft is dirty, clean its surface and then lube it.

Precautions:

  • Before maintenance, clean the dirt from the surface of the shafts.
  • During maintenance, make sure that the lubricant is evenly applied, wipe off the excess part, and make sure that the shaft is clean.
  • After maintenance, manually slide the laser module to check if it moves smoothly.

Maintenance on other parts:

  • During laser processing, smoke and dust may be generated, and some may adhere to the surface of some parts of the machine. Therefore, routine maintenance is required.
  • Disconnect the device from the power supply, and then use a dry cotton cloth to gently wipe the dirty parts. If a non-electronic part is difficult to clean, wipe it with a cloth moistened with a little alcohol.
  • For the lenses of the camera and laser module, clean them with cotton swabs moistened with alcohol.

2. Laser lens cleaning

Lens cleaning:

The dust in the air may adhere to the surface of the lens while processing, and even when the device is not used for a long time.

The light transmittance decreases due to the dust, and that leads to the attenuation of laser power. Therefore, routine maintenance is required.

2 Ways of cleaning:

Check whether the lens is dirty by using the front camera of your smart phone.

With the image captured, use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol to clean the lens.

Disconnect the device from the power supply and remove the baseplate.

Gently place xTool M1 upside down, move the laser module to the center, and check whether the lens is dirty.

If it is dirty, wipe it with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol, and then clean it with a dry cotton swab.

3. Cutting mat maintenance

Cutting mats are sticky on both sides, which allows them to hold materials in place during blade cutting.

Kindly note that:

Do not use it at a high temperature. Otherwise, the adhesive on a cutting mat may be melted or even adhere to the device or material. In that case, it would be difficult to clean it.

Do not use it in an environment with dust and dirt, which may adhere to the surface of the cutting mat and reduce its adhesive strength.

Place the protective film back on both sides of the cutting mat to prolong its life.

Do not place it with other objects for long without the protective film. Otherwise, the cutting mat and objects may be damaged.

Cutting mats are consumables. The adhesive strength of a cutting mat decreases over time. Replace it with a new one when it fails to hold a material.
