Use RA2 Chuck on Large Tumblers or Other Large Objects

When using the RA2 with the Chuck -- I have found that using the chuck jaws to hold the object from the inside of the object to be very efficient and much more useful than trying to hold the object from the outside.

Holding it from the inside has the following advantages:

  1. The chuck jaws will not be in the way of your framing operation (e.g. the laser head will not impact the jaws) which will lead to much smoother framing
  2. The chuck is able to hold much larger objects when holding from the inside.
  3. When performing the framing operation, it is much easier to see when the object may be out of alignment with the rest of the rotary (i.e. not squared with the rotary)

Another tip when using the RA2 Pro with the chuck, is to flip the base-plate around so that it extends to the side of the rotary where the chuck drive belt is located as illustrated in the picture I have attached to this article. This allows for larger objects to be placed in the rotary. Should your object cause the rotary to drop down, you can easily just add a weight to the base-plate to off-set the weight of your object.
