Issue description

  1. The finished print shows slight color contamination, as shown in the following figure.

  2. In the nozzle check pattern, one color channel contains traces of other colors, as shown below.

Possible causes

  • The material deforms when heated, affecting height measurement.
Some materials may warp or bulge due to heat during printing. This affects the height measurement and creates an incorrect gap between the printhead and the material. Ink droplets may scatter and cause color contamination.
  • The material surface is uneven.
The height sensor uses the material’s highest point as its reference. The gap between the printhead and lower areas may therefore be too large. Fine ink droplets may scatter in these areas and reach adjacent color channels.
  • The ink scraper and ink pad have not been cleaned regularly.
Excess waste ink can reduce cleaning effectiveness. The ink scraper may fail to clean the underside of the printhead and instead spread residual ink into adjacent nozzles.
  • The ink scraper or ink pad is deformed or damaged.
A worn or deformed scraper edge or a damaged sealing edge on the ink pad may cause air leaks during ink suction or uneven wiping pressure. Ink may accumulate on the printhead and cause color contamination.

Troubleshooting procedure

Step 1: Check that the material is flat and secure

  1. Use flat materials. Avoid materials with pronounced bumps or depressions. Place the material level to prevent ink droplets from scattering in lower areas.
  2. Secure the material to prevent warping. For thin sheets, plastic, or other materials that may warp when heated, secure all edges with heat-resistant tape before printing. Make sure the material remains flat throughout the printing process.
  3. If the material is flat and properly secured, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Check the printed material for deformation

Check whether the printed material has warped or deformed. Some materials may warp or bulge when heated by the UV light. This may affect the height measurement.

For these materials, lower the print height to avoid prolonged heat exposure from UV light.

If the material is not likely to deform when heated, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Inspect and clean the ink scraper and ink pad

  1. Inspect for wear or damage. Power off the printer and move the printhead to the center. Inspect the ink scraper and ink pad for deformation, damage, or missing sections. Replace the damaged scraper or ink pad assembly if needed by referring to Replace the Ink Scraper, Ink Pad, and Ink Absorber Foam for O1 Omni Printer.
  2. Clean both components. If they are intact, use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab dampened with the designated cleaning solution or alcohol. Thoroughly remove waste ink from the scraper surface and the inside of the ink pad. For detailed instructions, see Clean the Ink Pad & Ink Scraper and Replace the Absorber Foam
