Use the left rail shape tool to place lines, rectangles, circles, polygons, stars, and freehand vectors on the canvas. This is separate from the Elements library (ready-made graphics).
Choose a shape tool
- On the left rail, find the shape tool (default icon is usually Rectangle).
- Click the main icon to draw with the current shape.
- Click the small arrow on the tool to open the list:
- Line
- Rectangle
- Circle
- Polygon
- Star
- Vector (pen)
- Click a shape type to select it. Some entries show a keyboard shortcut in the menu.

Draw on the canvas
- With a shape tool active, click and drag on the canvas to create the shape (behavior depends on the tool).
- For Vector, click to place points and finish the path per the pen tool workflow.
- To return to normal editing, click Select at the bottom of the left rail (or press V if that shortcut is enabled on your platform).

Related tools on the same rail
- Import.
- Text — add editable text.
Shape tools may be disabled while you are in certain image-editing modes.

Tips
- Hold Shift while drawing some shapes to constrain proportions (where supported).
- After drawing, use the top design panel to set Fill and Stroke (see the fill & stroke article).
