What is SaveGas™?

SaveGas™ Smart Gas Saving System is an integrated software and hardware gas management solution designed by xTool for the MetalFab CNC Cutter series. Through the deep synergy between the SaveGas™ Nozzle and the Smart Gas-Off Algorithm, it helps users save on auxiliary gas while improving processing results.

How does SaveGas™ work?

In traditional laser cutting, when the laser head moves between different cutting paths (known as "traverse" or "idle travel"), the laser is off, but auxiliary gas (such as air or nitrogen) usually continues to blow, causing significant waste.

SaveGas™ is a smart gas management feature introduced in xTool Studio. It precisely identifies "traverse" strokes in the processing path, high-speed closes the gas valve when the laser is moving but not firing, and pre-opens the valve instantly before the next cut begins.

Core Values

Enabling this feature provides two main benefits:

  • Cost Saving: Minimizes ineffective gas injection during non-cutting times to the greatest extent, directly reducing consumable costs.
  • Process Stability: Through smart algorithm control, the system opens the gas valve a specific time before cutting starts. This ensures the gas pressure reaches the set value the instant cutting begins, effectively reducing issues like "starting point dross" or "incomplete cuts" caused by pressure fluctuations.

How to Use

  1. In the processing parameter settings panel of xTool Studio, find the "SaveGas™ Smart Gas Saving (Beta)" option.
  2. Click the toggle to turn it on (default is off).
  3. Start processing. The system will now automatically take over gas valve control.
  4. After processing ends, you can view the estimated gas savings for this job on the completion page.img_v3_02u7_c367f82c-c4ff-4830-a563-f724fce7d3eg.jpg

Beta Version Notes

SaveGas™ is currently in the Beta stage. Although we have completed over 400,000 reliability tests, please note the following to ensure the best experience:

  • Valve Lifespan: Enabling this feature increases the frequency of the solenoid valve's operation. Although we have set an intelligent threshold (closing gas only when the traverse time exceeds a certain duration) to protect hardware, valve wear may accelerate slightly under extremely high-intensity operations.
  • Thin Sheet Processing: When cutting very thin materials, frequent gas switching might cause slight material vibration. We recommend securing materials firmly (be sure to use clamps) when processing thin sheets.
  • Data Estimation: The "Saved Gas Amount" displayed in the software is based on laboratory measurements. Actual physical consumption may vary slightly due to air pressure, temperature, and pneumatic lines; this is for reference only.

FAQ

Q: Will frequent gas switching affect cutting quality?

A: No. The system intelligently calculates the pre-opening timing (pre-flow) to ensure gas pressure is stable before the laser fires.

Q: Why does my processing task show very little gas saved?

A: If your processing path is very dense and traverse times are extremely short, the system may not trigger the gas-off function to protect the valve and ensure cutting continuity, resulting in minimal savings.
