Required gas pressure

Usage scenario

Notes

Double-layer nozzle

0.06 MPa

  • Cutting with oxygen or nitrogen
  • Cutting with an extension tube to focus the high-energy laser on the material, avoiding incomplete cuts or dross
  • Gas pressure control: Precise gas pressure control is required when cutting with oxygen. We recommend using a proportional valve & pressure reducer to regulate gas pressure.
    • Insufficient pressure: slag residue or dross
    • Excessive pressure: lower laser beam stability
  • Calibration requirements: When replacing a single-layer nozzle with a double-layer nozzle, perform red light calibration to ensure processing quality.

Ordinary nozzle

> 1.2 MPa

  • Non-contact cutting, preventing material surface scratch

Higher gas pressure for thicker material: Ordinary nozzle requires higher gas pressure (typically 1 MPa / 1.2 MPa) to cut through steel plates thicker than 2 mm

SaveGas™ nozzle

> 0.6 MPa

  • Saving gas
  • Cutting thick materials
  • Avoid thin material processing: Not recommended for thin material (thichness < 2 mm) cutting, which may cause material deformation.
  • Test cut: Before processing, test cut a sample like a 20 × 20 mm square to ensure optimal cutting results
  • Ceramic ring related
    • Before processing: Ensure that the ceramic ring is clean and that it can retract and extend normally
    • After processing: Check if the ceramic ring is damaged or attached with debris. To replace it, refer to this guide.

CNC cleaning nozzle

0.5– 0.6 MPa

  • Cleaning large and flat surface, such as steel plates and molds
  • Uniform cleaning, not uneven cleaning
  • Do not use the handheld cleaning nozzle as shown to clean rust with xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter.

Handheld cleaning nozzle

Nozzle installation

There are two tips for the welding head: welding tip and cutting tip (for CNC use). The CNC cleaning nozzle can only be installed onto the welding tip, while other nozzles included in the package of xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter are compatible with the cutting tip.

How to install a new nozzle (except for CNC cleaning nozzle)

The following takes the double-layer nozzle as an example to show how to install a new nozzle on the cutting tip. You may click here to watch the tutorial video.

Installation steps

  1. Detach the welding tip from the welding gun.
  1. Turn the original nozzle counterclockwise to remove it.

  1. Screw in the target nozzle clockwise. Ensure that it is well secured.
  1. Install the assembled cutting tip back to the welding head.

How to install a new CNC cleaning nozzle

  • Ensure that both xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter and xTool MetalFab Laser Welder are powered off.
  • Use the CNC cleaning nozzle instead of the handheld cleaning nozzle.

Installation steps

  1. Detach the welding tip from the welding gun.
  1. Remove the welding tip from the graduated tube.

  1. Insert the cleaning nozzle to the graduated tube.
  1. Replace the cutting tip with the assembled cleaning nozzle and graduated tube.

Ceramic ring

A ceramic ring is pre-installed in the SaveGas™ nozzle.

As the nozzle has been used for a long time, the ceramic ring may get damaged. To get optimal processing results, follow the instructions below to replace the damaged ceramic ring with a new one.

Installation steps

  1. Take out the SaveGas™ nozzle from the welding head by turning it clockwise.
  1. Take out the nozzle nut by turning it counterclockwise.
  1. Take out the damaged or soiled ceramic ring.

  1. Put the new ceramic ring in place.
  1. Reinstall the nozzle nut.
  1. Tighten the nut clockwise.

Laser alignment card and red stamp pad

The laser alignment card and the red stamp pad are used for welding head (welding gun) light calibration.

Camera calibration board

Installation steps

  1. Follow instructions on How to Calibrate the Camera of xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter to operate with xTool software.
  1. Peel off the protective film.
  1. Place the board onto the slats inside xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter.
  1. Take off the cutting tip.

Level

The level is used to make sure the assembled xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter is stable and flat. You can follow xTool MetalFab CNC Cutter User Guide to assemble the device.

To use the level, follow the instructions below.

Installation steps

  1. Install the short fixing bars.
  1. Open the protective lid.

  1. Place the level in the device.
  1. Observe the level bubble.
    1. If the bubble is centered, the device is even. You may continue the rest installation and operation.
    2. If the bubble is not centered, slightly adjust the leveling feet of the device.

For details about how to adjust the leveling feet, click here.

Slat

Slats are used for supporting materials to reduce unexpected movement during processing and enhancing cutting precision. You are advised to arrange slats as densely as possible.

Follow the instructions below to install the slats.

Installation steps

  1. Place a slat with its teeth facing up and its ends fitting snugly into two slots in the working area.

  1. Place slats with one slot apart. Decide the number of slats to be placed as required.
  1. Place a material on the slats.
