What is Dot Duration (μs)
When processing bitmap, a complete image is formed by methodically doting each point. Hence the term Dot Duration refers to the time spent at each point, measured in microseconds (μs), and it affects the overall processing time. To ensure stable light output, especially for infrared lasers, we recommend setting more than 100μs. The optimal timing varies with the material but usually falls between 100 and 500. Please note that excessive dot duration could result in a whitening effect and a longer processing time.
Applicable Machines
The Dot Duration function is only available for Bitmap Engrave with xTool F1 and F1 Ultra.
When to Set Dot Duration
Fine engraving
When fine engraving is required, such as engraving detailed images or text, proper Dot Duration ensures that each dot is fully engraved.
Material processing
Different materials have different absorption and reflection properties for the laser, and adjusting the Dot Duration ensures that the laser energy is delivered efficiently and avoids overheating or inadequate engraving.
Balance between efficiency and quality
In the pursuit of processing efficiency, but also need to ensure the quality of processing, Dot Duration adjustment can help strike a balance between efficiency and quality.
How to Set Dot Duration
You can select Dot Duration values in two ways:
1. Move the progress bar.
- 2. Click on the Dot Duration value and change it directly to your desired data.
Tips & Tricks
Avoid excessive processing time
Excessive Dot Duration may lead to overheating of the material, White spot lesions and prolonged processing time.
DPI and Dot Duration matching
While setting high DPI, pay attention to the matching of Dot Duration to avoid overheating or burning of the material surface caused by too dense dots.
Consider material characteristics
Different materials respond differently to the laser, and Dot Duration must be adjusted to match the material characteristics.
