Issue description

While you are operating your xTool Apparel Printer, an error message stating "Board communication failure" appear in xTool Creative Space (XCS), xTool Studio software, or on the printer's LCD control panel. The associated error code is typically car_pgl50g. This error code (car_pgl50g) indicates a communication problem between the High-speed PCB and the Carriage Controller Board within the printer.

  • Consult the following content for troubleshooting advice.

Potential causes

  • Environmental Interference: External factors may be temporarily disrupting communication.
  • Poor Cable Connection: The connecting cable between the High-speed PCB and the Carriage Controller Board may be loose or have a poor connection.
  • Board Malfunction: Either the High-speed PCB or the Carriage Controller Board (or both) may be experiencing failure.

Troubleshooting procedures

Step 1: Power cycle the printer

Environmental factors can sometimes cause temporary communication glitches. A full power cycle can often resolve these problems.
  1. Power cycle the printer:
    1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet (not from the machine).
    2. Wait 10 minutes before reconnecting.
    3. Plug the power cord back into the outlet and power on the machine.
  2. Test the connection:
    1. If the error persists, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Check & test the cable

This step involves inspecting the RJ45 (Registered Jack 45) LAN cable that connects the two boards.

⚠️ Caution: Ensure the printer is powered off and unplugged before any disassembly and assembly attempt.

Tools required:
  • M2.4 hex key
  • M4 hex screwdriver
  • Slotted screwdriver or a piece of metal plate or similar tool
  1. Check Connection on the Carriage Controller Board:
  • To access the Carriage Controller Board, you will need to remove the top cover of the printing carriage.
  • Use an M2.5mm hex key to remove the two screws securing the board, allowing you enough space to access the RJ45 connector.
  • Video Guide: For detailed visual instructions, watch: Replace the Carriage Controller Board for xTool Apparel Printer
  • Carefully disconnect the RJ45 LAN cable connector from its port on the board.
  • Inspect the connector and the port for any visible damage or debris.
  • Firmly reconnect the connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  1. Check Connection on the High-speed PCB:
  • To access the High-speed PCB, you will need to remove the printer's right-side cover. Use a slotted screwdriver or a similar flat tool to help release the cover clips.
  • Video Guide: For detailed visual instructions, watch: Replace the High-speed PCB on xTool Apparel Printer
  • Locate the RJ45 LAN cable port on the High-speed PCB.
  • Carefully disconnect and then firmly reconnect the RJ45 connector, ensuring a secure connection.

  1. Test the Connection:
  • After reseating the cable at both ends, power on the printer and check if the error message reappears.
  • If the error persists, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Test with a new cable (Optional)

If reseating the original cable did not help, the cable itself may be glitching.

  1. Obtain a Cable: Use a standard Cat5 (Category 5) Ethernet cable or RJ45 LAN cable.
  2. External Connection Test:
    1. You do not need to route this test cable through the printer's internal cable chains.
    2. Simply run the new cable externally from the High-speed PCB port to the Carriage Controller Board port.
  3. Test: Power on the printer.
    1. Error Disappears: The original internal cable is glitching. Replace the cable.
    2. Error Persists: The issue lies with the boards. Proceed to Step 4.

Step 4: Replace hardware(s)

If the error continues after the previous steps, it is likely that either the Carriage Controller Board or the High-speed PCB (or both) has a hardware failure.

Advanced Intervention:

  1. This step requires advanced technical intervention. Please proceed to the "If the problem persists" section to contact xTool Customer Service for further diagnosis.
  2. If deemed necessary by xTool technical experts, the Carriage Controller Board or the High-speed PCB (or both) may need to be replaced.
  3. Follow the procedures outlined in this tutorial for detailed instructions:
