📖 Introduction

This guide explains how to install custom fonts for use in xTool Creative Space (XCS) on both Windows and macOS operating systems. Adding custom fonts allows you to expand your design options within XCS.

⚠️ Important notes:

  • xTool does not provide font files. You are responsible for obtaining font files from trusted sources.
  • Hebrew Language Support: XCS does not currently support Hebrew fonts.
  • Font Display Issues: Some fonts may not display properly in XCS, particularly if they lack support for certain language characters. If you select a font and see no change, the font may be incompatible.

🛠️ STEP1: Download & install fonts

For Windows:

  • Download the Font Files: These often come compressed in .zip folders. In one .zip folder, you might find several variations on the same font, such as “light” and “heavy.”
  • Unzip the Files: If the font files are zipped, unzip them by right-clicking the .zip folder and clicking Extract. Now you'll see the available TrueType or OpenType font files:

  • Install the Fonts: Right-click the fonts you prefer, and click Install.
  • If you're prompted to allow the program to make changes to your computer and if you trust the source of the font, click Yes to complete the installation process.

Alternative Method:

  • All fonts are stored in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. Optionally, you can add fonts by simply dragging font files from the extracted files folder into this folder. Windows will then automatically install them.
  • To see what a font looks like, open the Fonts folder, right-click the font file, then select Preview.
  • You can also see your installed fonts via the Control Panel. Depending on your version of Windows, you will go to either Control Panel > Fonts --or-- Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts.

For macOS:

macOS supports a variety of font formats, including:

  • TrueType (.ttf)
  • Variable TrueType (.ttf)
  • TrueType Collection (.ttc)
  • OpenType and OpenType-SVG (.otf)
  • OpenType Collection (.ttc)

Note: While legacy suitcase TrueType fonts and PostScript Type 1 LWFN fonts might work, they are not officially recommended.

  • Download a Font File: On your Mac, download a font file from Apple or another source.
  • Install the Font: Do any of the following:
    • In the Font Book app , choose File > Add Fonts to Current User. In the window that appears, double-click the font file.
    • Drag the font file to the Font Book app icon in the Dock, then click Install in the dialogue that appears.
    • Drag the font file to the Font Book window.
    • Double-click the font file in the Finder, then click Install in the dialogue that appears.

⚠️ Important notes:

  • When you install a font, Font Book automatically validates or checks the font you’re installing for errors. Font Book also checks for duplicate fonts.
  • Fonts you install are available only to you, or to anyone who uses your computer, depending on the default location you set for installed fonts.

🛠️ STEP2: Restart XCS

After installing new fonts on either Windows or macOS, you must restart xTool Creative Space (XCS) for the new fonts to appear in the font list.

  • Close XCS: Completely close the xTool Creative Space application.
  • Reopen XCS: Launch xTool Creative Space again.
  • Check Font List: The newly installed fonts should now be available in the font selection dropdown menu within XCS. Select the corresponding font tool bar to bring up the Fonts list.
