Screen printing mainly includes three steps: mount the screen, engrave the screen, and print the design. We use xTool P2 here to engrave the screen for printing.

For more information on how to start screen printing, see Reading Guide for xTool Screen Printer.

STEP 1 Mount the screen and place it in the working area

(1) Follow the instructions in “Step-by-step Guide: (1) Mount a Screen” to mount the screen on the frame.
(2) Turn over the screen assembly, with the back of the screen facing up.

Note: To ensure a better processing effect and protect the baseplate, you are advised to make the back of the screen face up.

(3) Open the lid of xTool P2, and place the screen assembly stably on the baseplate.

Note: There is a small area on the left of the baseplate out of the reach of the laser. You are advised to place the screen assembly at the right of the center to ensure a larger processable area.

Note: If you need to engrave multiple screens for multi-color printing, you are advised to use the frame fixing piece for xTool P2. For more information on how to use a frame fixing piece and process screens for multi-color printing, see Use the Frame Fixing Piece for xTool P2 and Process Screens by Layer for Multi-Color Printing. Or you can see DIY Frame Fixing Pieces for xTool P2 Series.

STEP 2 Connect the xTool P2 to XCS

(1) Use a USB cable to connect your device to your computer, and turn on your device.
(2) Open XCS on your computer. In the upper-right corner, click +New project.
(3) In the upper right of the project page, click the Switch device / Connect device icon next to the device name.
(4) Click Connect device. Select the device to connect.

Note: After connecting xTool P2 to XCS using a USB cable, you can connect in Wi-Fi or IP mode. Whichever way you choose, you need to connect it to your computer with the USB cable first. After connecting your device to XCS in Wi-Fi or IP mode, you can search for your device on XCS next time without USB connection.

STEP 3 Select the processing mode and material name

(1) On the top of XCS, click the name of the current processing mode, and then select Screen preparation as the processing mode.
(2) In the top-right corner, click User-defined material, select the name of your material, and click Confirm.

Note: XCS provides recommended processing parameters for coated screens, you only need to select Coated Screen 100 Mesh or 200 Mesh as the material, and XCS will automatically set processing parameters for the screen.

STEP 4 Measure the distance of the material

Before processing, you need to measure the distance between the material and laser module. You can only use the Aimed-measure here to obtain the distance.

Note: When automatic measurement results in significant errors or fails entirely, please consult Manually Measure the Focal Distance for xTool P2 Series for manual measurement of the focal distance.

STEP 5 Shoot background

(1) In the top-right corner of XCS, click the Refresh background icon. You can choose to refresh background or take a close shot.

STEP 6 Edit objects and set parameters

(1) Select objects on the canvas.

Note: It is recommended to place the design in the center of the processing area, as the center of the screen has the best tautness for optimal engraving and printing results.

Note: You can import images, insert shapes, enter text, draw vector graphics, and so on. For more information on how to use XCS to design objects, see Software Learning Center.

(2) Reflect the pattern horizontally or vertically.
xTool P2 will engrave on the back of the screen, so you need to reflect the pattern horizontally or vertically.

Note: You may need to rotate the pattern depending on how you will place the material to be printed. For example, a T-shirt is usually slid onto the working platform for printing, so you need to rotate the pattern by 90 degrees. The rotating direction depends on how you place the screen assembly in the working area of xTool P2.

STEP 7 Start processing

(1) Set the processing path. This project contains only one object. You can set the processing path to Auto planning.
(2) Click Process.
(3) Preview the object and click Start.
(4) Press the button on xTool P2 to start processing.
