Board communication failure

Issue description

• When using M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you might encounter an error message stating "Board communication failure." This indicates a potential issue with the communication between the Z-axis control board and the main control board.

Possible causes

• Electrical interference in the circuit environment;
• Loose connection between the Z-axis control board and M1 Ultra's main control board;

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Reboot the machine

1. Power off M1 Ultra completely.
2. Wait a few seconds before powering it back on. This is to rule out the possible electrical interference in the circuit environment.
3. Check if the error message persists. If it does,  it indicates the cause of the glitch lies elsewhere. Proceed to the next step.

Step 2 Secure the 36-pin ribbon cable

1. Power off the M1 Ultra.
2. Follow the video tutorial below (from 0:00 to 1:40) to remove the Z-axis cover.
3. On the back of the Z-axis control board, carefully inspect the 36-pin ribbon cable (refer to the image below) for any loose connections.
   
4. 1. Ensure it is fully inserted until the white line on the 36-pin ribbon cable is aligned with the edge of the connector.
   2. Ensure the cable is securely connected.

• If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.

Step 3 Replace the Z-axis control board

1. If the issue persists despite following the above steps, this indicates a possible breakdown of the Z-axis control board. Please replace it to settle the issue.
2. For a replacement, please contact xTool Customer Service at support@xtool.com.
3. Include a detailed description of the issue, the serial number on the back of the machine (refer to the image below), your recipient information, and a list of the troubleshooting results you have already attempted to help us determine the appropriate course of action promptly.

Chip exceptions on the Z-axis control board

Issue description

• When using the M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message stating "Chip exceptions." This error suggests a potential issue with the Z-axis control board or its connection to the main control board.

Possible causes

1. Electrical interference in the circuit environment.
2. Loose connection between the Z-axis control board and the main control board.
3. Z-axis control board failure;

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Reboot the machine

1. Power off M1 Ultra completely.
2. Wait a few seconds before powering it back on. This is to rule out the possible electrical interference in the circuit environment.
3. Check if the error message persists. If it does,  it indicates the cause of the glitch lies elsewhere. Proceed to the next step.

Step 2 Secure the 36-pin ribbon cable

1. Power off the M1 Ultra.

Main control board temperature exception

Issue description

• When operating M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message stating "Main control board temperature exception." This indicates that the main control board is experiencing an abnormal temperature condition. Refer to the steps below to troubleshoot the issue. 

Possible causes

1. Heat build-up inside M1 Ultra causes malfunctions.
2. The central processing unit (CPU) fan of M1 Ultra may fail.
3. The heat sinks on the main control board might become dislodged.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Cool M1 Ultra down

1. Turn off the machine completely.
2. Open the lid to allow better cooling for approximately 10 minutes.
3. After about 10 minutes of cooling, reboot the machine and run XCS to check if the issue persists.
4. It is advisable to avoid operating M1 Ultra in a high-temperature environment to mitigate overheating.
5. If this issue continues, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Step 2 Secure CPU fan cable/Replace CPU fan

Note:
In the latest design of xTool M1 Ultra main control board, the CPU fan socket has been removed; hence, it is normal if you find the absence of this structure. You can simply skip this step.

1. Turn off the machine completely and flip it over.
2. Follow the video tutorial below (from 0:00 to 1:32) to remove the main control board shield.
3. Inspect the CPU fan connection cable (refer to the image below) for any loose connections. Ensure it is securely attached to the connector.
   
   
4. If the cable is loose, secure it properly before rebooting M1 Ultra to check if the error message persists.
5. If the error message persists despite following this step, it may indicate a broken CPU fan (refer to the image below). Please replace it to settle the issue. For a replacement, contact our xTool Customer Service.
   

Step 3 Secure the heat sinks

1. Inspect the heat sinks (refer to the image below) to ensure they are properly installed.
   
2. If the heat sinks are loose or dislodged, reattach and secure them.
3. If the issue persists despite following the above steps, please contact xTool Customer Service at support@xtool.com.
4. Include a detailed description of the issue, the serial number on the back of the machine (refer to the image below), and a list of the troubleshooting results you have already attempted to help us determine the appropriate course of action promptly.

X-axis driver exception (Error code: M23 S135)

Issue description

• When operating M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message indicating an "X-axis driver exception." Please refer to the steps outlined below for troubleshooting.

Possible causes

1. The X-axis motor may be overheating, causing operational issues.
2. The connection between the main control board and the X-axis motor may be loose or failing.
3. The X-axis driver module on the main control board may be malfunctioning.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Cool the X-axis motor down

1. Turn off the machine completely.
2. Open the lid to allow the X-axis motor to cool down for approximately 5 minutes.
3. After about 5 minutes of cooling, reboot the machine and run XCS to check if the issue persists.
4. It is advisable to avoid operating M1 Ultra in a high-temperature environment to mitigate the X-axis motor overheat.
5. If this issue continues, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Step 2 Reconnect the x-axis motor cable

• Inspect if the X-axis motor cable (see the picture below) is loosely seated on the socket.
• 1. If the cable is loose, reconnect the x-axis motor cable securely.
  2. If the issue continues, proceed to the next step.

Step 3 Replace the main control board

1. When the X-axis driver module on the main control board malfunctions, the laser module cannot move left or right.
2. If the previous troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, this malfunction may be the cause.
   
3. Please replace the failed main control board to settle the issue.
4. Contact our xTool Customer Service for a replacement. Include a detailed description of the issue, the serial number on the back of the machine (refer to the image below), your recipient information, and a list of the troubleshooting results you have already attempted to help us determine the appropriate course of action promptly.

Y-axis Driver Exception (Error code: M23 S136)

Issue description

• When operating M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message indicating a "Y-axis driver exception." Please refer to the steps outlined below for troubleshooting.

Possible causes

1. The Y-axis motor may be overheating, causing operational issues.
2. The connection between the main control board and the Y-axis motor may be loose or failing.
3. The Y-axis driver module on the main control board may be malfunctioning.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Cool the Y-axis motor down

1. Turn off the machine completely.
2. Open the lid to allow the Y-axis motor to cool down for approximately 5 minutes.
3. After about 5 minutes of cooling, reboot the machine and run XCS to check if the issue persists.
4. It is advisable to avoid operating M1 Ultra in a high-temperature environment to mitigate the Y-axis motor overheat.

4. Reboot M1 Ultra to check if the machine resumes proper operation.
5. If this does not resolve the issue, move to the next step.

Step 3 Replace the main control board

1. When the Y-axis driver module on the main control board malfunctions, the laser module cannot move along the Y-axis.
2. If the previous troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, this malfunction may be the cause.
   
3. Please replace the failed main control board to settle the issue.

Z-axis driver exception (Module on basic carriage | Error code: M23 S137)

Issue description

• When operating M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message indicating a "Z-axis driver exception (module on basic carriage)." Please refer to the steps outlined below for troubleshooting.

Possible causes

1. The Z-axis motor on the basic carriage may be overheating, causing operational issues.
2. The Z-axis motor cable inside the basic carriage or the motor itself is malfunctioning.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Cool the Z-axis motor down

1. Turn off the machine completely.
2. Open the lid to allow the Z-axis motor to cool down for approximately 5 minutes.
3. After about 5 minutes of cooling, reboot the machine and run XCS to check if the issue persists.
4. It is advisable to avoid operating M1 Ultra in a high-temperature environment to mitigate the Z-axis motor overheat.
5. If this issue continues, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Step 2 Inspect the basic carriage ribbon cable

1. Power off M1 Ultra completely.
2. Follow the video tutorial below (from 0:00 to 1:27) to remove the Z-axis cover and the basic carriage cover.
3. Inspect the ribbon cable (refer to the image below) of the basic carriage that connects to the Z-axis control board for any signs of looseness or damage.
   
4. 1. If the cable is loose, secure the ribbon cable connection.
   2. If the cable is damaged, contact our xTool Customer Service for further assistance.

• If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.

Step 3 Inspect the 36-pin ribbon cable

1. Power off M1 Ultra completely.
2. Follow the video tutorial below (from 0:00 to 1:40) to remove the Z-axis cover.
3. On the back of the Z-axis control board, carefully inspect the 36-pin ribbon cable (refer to the image below) for any signs of looseness or damage.
   
4. If the cable is loose, secure the ribbon cable connection. Unplug and replug to ensure it is fully inserted until the white line on the 36-pin ribbon cable is aligned with the edge of the connector.

Z-axis driver exception (Module on multi-function holder | Error code: M23 S155)

Issue description

• When operating M1 Ultra with xTool Creative Space (XCS), you may encounter an error message indicating a "Z-axis driver exception (module on multi-function holder)." Please refer to the steps outlined below for troubleshooting.

Possible causes

1. The Z-axis motor on the multi-function holder may be overheating, causing operational issues.
2. The Z-axis motor cable inside the multi-function holder or the motor itself may be malfunctioning.

Troubleshooting

Step 1 Cool the Z-axis motor down

1. Turn off the machine completely.
2. Open the lid to allow the Z-axis motor to cool down for approximately 5 minutes.
3. After about 5 minutes of cooling, reboot the machine and run XCS to check if the issue persists.
4. It is advisable to avoid operating M1 Ultra in a high-temperature environment to mitigate the Z-axis motor overheat.
5. If this issue continues, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Step 2 Conduct a cross-test with another processing module

1. Remove the currently installed laser module from your M1 Ultra.
2. Install an alternate processing module from your M1 Ultra package.
3. Test the alternate processing module with a process project.
