After connecting M1 Ultra to xTool Creative Space (XCS), if you see a pop-up error message displaying "Z-axis Homing Failure (Module on Basic Carriage | Error Code: M23 S142)" while the indicator light turns red and the buzzer sounds the alarm three times consecutively, this indicates a Z-axis reset failure. Possible causes
The ribbon cable connector of the basic carriage may be loosely seated on the Z-axis control board.
The 36-pin cable or Type-C connector on the Z-axis control board may be loose.
The 36-pin cable or Type-C connector on the main control board may be loose.
The ribbon cable for the motor inside the basic carriage may be broken, or the motor itself may be malfunctioning.
Troubleshooting
#1 Reconnect the basic carriage ribbon cable
Follow the video tutorial below to remove the basic carriage cover (from 0:00 to 1:32).
Inspect the connector of the basic carriage on the Z-axis control board for any loose connections.
Replug the connector and reboot M1 Ultra to check if the machine resumes proper operation.
If the error persists, proceed to the next step.
#2 Reconnect the Z-axis control board 36-pin cable / Type-C connector
Turn off M1 Ultra.
Follow the video tutorial below to remove the Z-axis cover.
Inspect if the 36-pin cable on the back of the Z-axis control board is securely connected.
If it is loose, reconnect the cable. Ensure that the cable is inserted until the white line is parallel to its connector.
Check the Type-C connector for any looseness.
If it is loose, reconnect it securely.
Reboot M1 Ultra to check if the machine resumes proper operation.
If the issue remains unresolved, proceed to the next step.
#3 Reconnect the main control board 36-pin cable / Type-C connector
Turn off M1 Ultra.
Follow the video tutorial below to remove the main control board shield.
Inspect if the 36-pin cable on the back of the main control board is securely connected.
If it is loose, reconnect the cable. Ensure that the cable is inserted until the white line is parallel to its connector.
Check the Type-C connector for any looseness.
If it is loose, reconnect it securely.
Reboot M1 Ultra to check if the machine resumes proper operation.
If the error message continues to pop up, proceed to the next step.

#4 Replace the basic carriage
Power on M1 Ultra.
Inspect if the basic carriage is tossing up and down during the power-on reset phase.
If the basic carriage moves up and down, it indicates a possible broken ribbon cable inside the basic carriage, ruling out a motor malfunction.
