1. Why does xTool Creative Space (XCS) require calibrating the ink module upon first-time use?
This is because the ink module is sold separately from the M1 Ultra package as an add-on. This inevitably incurs assembly tolerances. Hence, to compensate for this, it is recommended to calibrate a brand-new ink module upon first use to ensure optimal printing results.
2. Why is the printing area smaller in inkjet mode compared to other processing modes?
The actual printing area in inkjet mode is smaller than 300mm x 300mm due to the size limitations of the ink module. The precise dimensions are 286mm x 296mm.
3. Will xTool design a black ink cartridge for M1 Ultra in the future?
Unfortunately, the black ink cartridge is not on xTool's current product roadmap. Given the limited compartment space, the current design of the ink module only allows for a single ink cartridge to be installed. This means xTool relies on the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) color model in the current ink module. Due to the properties of dye ink, the CMYK effects, i.e. cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black), cannot be achieved with two separate processing steps by simply installing a second black ink cartridge.
4. Is sublimation ink supported?
The inkjet module uses dye ink and thermal bubble printing technology, whereas sublimation ink primarily relies on micro piezo technology. This means the latter is not supported by the current ink cartridges.
5. What file formats are supported for inkjet printing?
Only bitmap files are supported, including common formats such as jpeg, jpg, and png.
6. What types of images yield the best printing results?
Images with vibrant colors and high saturation produce the best printing results.
7. What color mixing scheme does the ink module employ?
The ink module uses the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) color model.
8. What colors can the ink module print?
The ink module applies the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) color model, allowing it to produce most colors but with certain limitations.
Due to the chemical properties of the inks, mixing CMY cannot create a pure black; it usually results in a dark red or gray.
Additionally, it also cannot print white, as white color depends on the color of the dye itself. Other colors are synthesized from CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow).
Moreover, since the colors are synthetic, the printed pattern's color fidelity and saturation will not be as high as seen on a screen, though they remain within an acceptable range.
9. What materials can be used for inkjet printing?
Inkjet printing can process materials such as fabric, wood, and printing paper.
However, it cannot print on material with rather dense or smooth surfaces like metal, glass, or ceramics as ink cannot penetrate or adhere to these surfaces. To leave marks on them, a layer of ink-receptive coating can be applied to the surface before printing to ensure proper adhesion.
10. What are the usage and storage conditions for the ink cartridge?
Operating temperature: 15°C - 32°C
Storage humidity: 20% - 80% relative humidity
Operating humidity: 20% - 80% relative humidity
Storage temperature: -40°C - 60°C
DO NOT store the cartridge under direct sunlight or in areas with extreme temperature changes. DO NOT touch the nozzle plate on the side of the cartridge.
11. Is the ink in the ink cartridge toxic?
Skin Contact: The ink is non-toxic upon contact with the skin. There is no cause for concern.
Eye Contact: In the event of eye contact, immediately rinse with running water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention promptly.
DO NOT ingest the ink.
12. What is the estimated print yield for one ink cartridge?
Under default concentration settings, a single ink cartridge can theoretically print up to 20 full A4 pages. However, the actual print yield may vary based on factors such as the printed colors, ink concentration, and environmental conditions.
13. Is the ink in the ink cartridge water-resistant?
No. The ink in the cartridge is not water-resistant and will fade when exposed to water. To achieve water resistance, apply a layer of transparent waterproof material after printing.
14. What precautions should be taken for using the ink cartridge?
Prevent Solidification: Ink solidifies easily when not in use. Always cover the cartridge with its protective pieces after use.
Storage Conditions: Store the cartridge in a cool place, avoiding high temperatures and direct sunlight.
Maintaining Moisture: If the sponge inside the bottom cover of the ink cartridge container dries out, add an appropriate amount of purified water to keep it moist.
15. Can the cartridge be replenished with self-purchased ink?
It is recommended to purchase official replacement cartridges.
However, refilling the cartridge yourself is possible but requires a certain level of skill. Note that different brands of ink may vary, which can lead to inconsistent results after refilling. The capacity for each color ink is approximately 5ML. Refer to the diagram below for injecting CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) colors into the respective ports on the back of the cartridge.
