Tackle Blurry or Poor Laser Engraving for M1 Ultra

Updated Jul 11,2024

Issue description

If you come across shallow, blurry, or charred laser engravings, follow this guide for improvements.

Why does it happen

  1. The resolution of the image is low.
  2. The processing power or speed is set too high or too low.
  3. Imperfect engraving outcomes may be attributed to inherent material characteristics.
  4. The lens mount is tainted or deformed.

How to fix it

#1 Improve image resolution

  1. Check if the image to be laser-engraved is low in resolution.
  2. If so, enhance image resolution by adjusting image "Sharpness".
  3. Use a higher-resolution image, if possible.
  4. If this is not the case, proceed to the next step.

#2 Adjust processing power and speed

  1. For XCS built-in materials, use the recommended parameters. For more on xTool recommended parameters, visit xTool Material EasySet Library at https://mt.xtool.com/
  2. For other materials, utilize the material test array (refer to the image below) in XCS to find optimal engraving parameters. The material test array is available for both vector images and bitmap images.

#3 Increase power or reduce speed

  1. Imperfect engraving results may be ascribed to the material itself. Notably, they may be swayed by factors, including uneven colors and the density of the material's texture.
  2. To improve engraving outcomes, adjust processing power or reduce processing speed.
  3. If the issue persists, move to the next step.

#4 Clean/Replace the lens mount

  1. Check if the laser lens mount is tainted or deformed.
  2. Following the image tutorial below, detach the laser lens mount with the rotating piece from your M1 Ultra package.

    • For a tainted laser lens: Clean the lens with a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
    • For a deformed laser lens mount: Replace it with the spare mount included in the M1 Ultra package.
  1. If the issue persists despite following the above steps, please contact our Customer Service at support@xtool.com. Include a detailed description of the problem and a list of the troubleshooting results you have undertaken for further assistance.
