Preparations before material processing

đź’ˇ Note: xTool M1 Ultra is sold separately.

1. Remove the baseplate

(1) Open the lid of xTool M1 Ultra.

(2) Loosen the thumb screws for the baseplate anticlockwise and remove the screws.

(3) Put the removed screws into the handles on the baseplate.

 

(4) Remove the baseplate by the handle.

(5) Keep the removed baseplate for subsequent use.

2. Place xTool M1 Ultra on the riser base

⚠️ Mind your hands when placing xTool M1 Ultra on the riser base.

3. Connect xTool M1 Ultra to XCS

(1) Use the USB cable to connect xTool M1 Ultra to your computer. And turn on the device.

(2) Open XCS on your computer. On the top-right corner of XCS, click the + New project button.

 

(3) On the top of the project editing page, click Please connect a device

Note: If you have connected an xTool device in XCS before, click the name of the device > select Connect device.

 

(4) On the pop-up window, click the name of your device to connect to it.

Process materials

The riser base is designed with 4 placement levels to adapt to materials of multiple thicknesses. You need to determine the level at which the honeycomb panel is to be placed based on the thickness or diameter of the material to be processed.

Process flat materials

1. Determine the placement level

For example, to process a flat material with a thickness of 25mm. 

Check the table above, place the honeycomb panel at Level α, and place the material on the honeycomb panel.

For example, to process a flat material with a thickness of 60 mm. 

Check the table above, place the honeycomb panel at Level β, and place the material on the honeycomb panel.

(1) Open the door panel.

(2) Slide the honeycomb panel along the guide rail at Level β.

(3) Close the door panel and lid, and select Open plane on XCS.

 

💡 You can use the triangular prism at Level β as required, and the thickness of the material that can be processed is 26 mm<H ≤ 52 mm.
The triangular prisms and their holders are included in the xTool M1 Ultra kit. 

đź’ˇ Use the material pins

You can use the material pins to keep a material in place.

Place the material on the honeycomb panel. Then, use four material pins to secure the four corners of the material. After inserting a material pin, lay down its ring pull.

 

2. Select the processing mode and material name

đź’ˇ Note: The riser base only supports Lasering on flat surface and Use rotary attachment mode so far.

(1) On the right side of XCS, select Lasering on flat surface as the processing mode.


(2) In the top right corner of User-defined material, select the name of your material and click Confirm.

Click More xTool materials in the bottom left corner to search for more materials. If you can't find the name of your material, you can select User-defined material.

 

3. Design a processing object

Use the left-side tools to create objects on the canvas. 

đź’ˇ Note: You can import images, insert shapes, enter text, draw vector graphics, and so on. For more information on how to use XCS to design objects, see Software Learning Center.

 

4. Edit objects and set parameters

After you select a material on the material list or material library, the software will automatically set parameters for laser processing. The default settings apply to xTool materials. You can adjust the settings based on your needs. If you select User-defined material, you need to set the processing parameters by yourself.

Select objects on the canvas and set parameters for them.

 

5. Mark the processing area on the canvas

(1) On the right side of XCS, click Mark.


(2) Select a marking mode based on the shape of the target processing area, and click Start marking.


And you can see the pop-up window.

(3) Manually move the laser module to make the red cross spot fall at a vertex of the target processing area, and press the Point marking button on the device to record the position.

Then, repeat the same steps to record the other required vertex(es) for the target processing area.


 

(4) Make sure two points are marked. Click End marking > Done, and then the target processing area will be marked out on the canvas.

 

6. Set the laser focus

xTool M1 Ultra can measure the distance between the laser module and the material surface automatically.
(1) Move the laser module over the material. Ensure that the red cross falls on the surface of the material. Then close the lid.


 

(2) On the right panel, click the icon next to the Distance parameter, and xTool M1 Ultra will automatically measure the distance from the laser module to the material surface.

7. Preview the processing area

(1) At the bottom right corner of XCS, click the icon next to the framing button to set the framing speed.


(2) Click Framing and Press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start framing.


(3) After you confirm that the processing area is proper, click Framing completed in XCS. 

8. Start processing

(1) On the bottom right corner of the software, click Go to Process.

(2) Check whether the accessories or modules are prepared before processing on the right list.

(3) In the upper right corner of XCS, click Start to start processing.

(4) When everything is ready, press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start processing.

 

Process cylindrical and irregular materials

To process cylindrical and irregular materials, you can use the riser base in combination with xTool Rotary Attachment 2. Learn more.

Use the blade cut function

To use the blade cut function, you need to install the baseplate back to xTool M1 Ultra.

(1) Put the baseplate back to the device.

(2) Take out the removed screws from the handle.

(3) Install the screws on the baseplate and tighten them clockwise.
