Poplar and Eucalyptus cores

Plywood is a three-layer or multi-layer board material made of wood segments that are cut into veneers or sliced into veneers, and then glued together with adhesives, usually with odd layers of veneers, and adjacent layers of veneers The fiber directions are glued perpendicular to each other.

Plywood is one of the most commonly used materials for furniture. It is one of the three major wood-based panels. It can also be used for aircraft, ships, trains, automobiles, buildings, and packaging boxes. A group of veneers is usually formed by gluing the wood grain directions of adjacent layers perpendicular to each other. Usually, the surface plate and the inner layer are symmetrically arranged on both sides of the center layer or the core. It is a slab made of glued veneers crisscrossed in the direction of the wood grain and pressed under the condition of heating or no heating. The number of layers is generally odd, and a few are even. The physical and mechanical properties in the vertical and horizontal directions are slightly different. Commonly used plywood types are three-layer plywood, five-layer plywood, and so on. Plywood can improve the utilization rate of wood and is the main way to save wood.

The usual length and width specifications of large sheets are: 1220×2440mm, while the thickness specifications are generally: 3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 18mm, etc. The main tree species are beech, camphor, willow, poplar, and eucalyptus.

So how to distinguish between the poplar core and the eucalyptus core board? Here we take the linden board as an example:

1. Color

We can observe the side of the plywood. If the core is light yellow or beige, it is initially judged as poplar core plywood; if the core color is darker, then it is initially judged as eucalyptus core plywood

2. Thickness

Use vernier calipers to measure. If the thickness is between 2.8-3.2mm, it is initially determined as poplar core plywood; if the thickness of the board reaches 3.3-3.8mm, then it is initially defined as eucalyptus core plywood

3. Weight

You can put two pieces of plywood of the same size in your hands at the same time to feel it. Of course, you can also use a weight-measuring tool. Under the same size, the lighter one is the poplar core plywood, and the heavier one is the eucalyptus core plywood.

4. Machine

If the type of wood core cannot be determined through the above criteria, then there is the last way, which is to use the xTool M1/D1 machine for laser cutting, set the parameters to power 100, speed 3, and cut 1~2 times. If it is cut through, it is judged as poplar core plywood; if it cannot be cut through once, and the number of cuts reaches 3-5 times using a 10W semiconductor laser head, then it can be judged as eucalyptus core plywood.
