This article applies to:

xTool S1 with 10W, 20W, and 40W laser modules.

Issue description

After upgrading your xTool S1 firmware to version 011, you may encounter the error message: "Flame Risk Detected (Error Code: M53 F5)" in xTool Creative Space (XCS).

This error typically occurs when you perform high-power, low-speed laser engraving tasks on designs measuring 10×10 cm or smaller. Once triggered, the error message will temporarily halt your processing.

Please refer to this article for troubleshooting advice.

Possible causes

To minimize the risk of fire during laser processing, the updated firmware (011) includes enhanced safety algorithms. These algorithms enable XCS to analyze the design, laser power, and processing speed to determine if the laser module remains in one location for an extended period, as this could pose a fire risk.

Based on this assessment, the software evaluates whether executing the laser processing task poses a fire risk.

The error is triggered under the following conditions:

  1. Design size: ≤10×10 cm.
  2. Laser power: ≥90%.
  3. Processing speed: ≤10 mm/s.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

#1 Adjust processing parameters

To resolve the M53 F5 error, adjust one or more of the following parameters:

  • Increase the design size to more than 10×10 cm.
  • Reduce the laser power to less than 90%.
  • Increase the processing speed to more than 10 mm/s.

If you need to proceed with processing under the same parameters that triggered the error message, you may press the machine’s start button to continue.

However, the error will reoccur every two minutes.

#2 Ensure fire safety

If your task does require processing parameters that trigger the M53 F5 error message:

  1. Never leave the machine unattended. Constantly monitor the laser to guarantee no fire risk.
  2. If a fire occurs:
    • Immediately disconnect the laser device’s power supply.
    • Extinguish the fire promptly with appropriate safety measures.

To enhance safety:

  • Enable the “Flame alarm” feature in XCS and set its sensitivity to the highest level.
  • xTool highly recommends the use of a Fire Safety Set for extra precaution.
