During your operation of xTool S1, you may encounter one of the following error messages in xTool Creative Space (XCS) software:
XCS v2.0 and earlier: "SD card exceptions or failure"
XCS v2.0 and later: "The flash storage encounters an exception or is damaged"
XCS v2.0 and earlier: Error Code M53 T0
XCS v2.0 and later: Error Code M53 T0
Both messages indicate the same issue (Error Code M53 T0) with the storage system on the main control board, despite the differences in wording.
This section aims to assist you in identifying your motherboard type and applying the appropriate solution.
Prerequisite: Identify your motherboard type
xTool S1 uses two different mainboard designs: one with an SD card and one with embedded EMMC storage.
To resolve this issue, it is essential to first determine the type of mainboard in the S1 laser engraver. Please follow the instructions below to identify the motherboard type.
Step 1: Open the motherboard cover
Watch the instructional video: "Replace the Main Control Board of xTool S1" to guide you through the process of opening the motherboard cover and determining the mainboard type.

Step 2: Identify motherboard type
SD Card-based motherboard: This type features an SD card slot.
EMMC-based motherboard: This type does not have an SD card slot.

Troubleshooting for the SD card motherboard
If your S1 is equipped with an SD card-based mainboard, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Power off & reseat the SD card
⚠️Warning: Ensure your S1 is powered off to prevent damage to the SD card during the following operation.
Power off the S1 laser engraver.
Carefully remove and reinsert the SD card.
Format the SD card, if possible.
Step 2: Disconnect accessories
If your S1 is connected to accessories (e.g., xTool Air Assist Set, xTool Smoke Purifier, xTool Fire Safety Set), disconnect these accessories, as the action of connecting accessories while your S1 is on standby may incur static interference, leading up to this issue.
Power Off S1 and Accessories: Disconnect all accessories.
Power On S1: Test without accessories.
Reconnect Accessories: If the issue recurs, ensure the correct power-on sequence as described below.
Correct power-on sequence:
If the issue disappears after disconnecting accessories but reappears when reconnecting them, the power sequence of the accessories may be the cause.
Always power on your S1 first before powering on the accessory(ies). This order of operations can help prevent static issues.
Step 3: Replace the SD card
If the error message continues after resetting the SD card, replace it with a new one. For detailed instructions on how to replace or reseat the SD card, refer to: "Replace the SD Card for xTool S1".
If a replacement SD card is needed, please contact xTool Customer Service at support@xtool.com for further assistance.
Troubleshooting for EMMC motherboard
If your S1 uses an EMMC-based motherboard (no SD card slot), follow these steps:
Step 1: Restart the device
Power off the machine and then power it back on.
Check if the error persists.
If the issue remains unresolved, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Gather logs & additional information
If restarting the machine does not resolve the issue, please collect the following information to assist with troubleshooting:
Work Log:
Open the XCS software and establish Wi-Fi connection.
Navigate to Setting > Working Info > Work Log.
Export and forward the Work Log to xTool customer service.
After the error occurs, double-click the processing button on the S1.
Note whether the machine attempts to process the task and the status of the annular indicator light on the button (e.g., is it flashing yellow?).
Include this information in your report to xTool support.
