Updated Jan 26,2024
What You See
When this issue happens, you'll see a pop-up error message in XCS that says the Z-axis motor driver failed.
Why It Happens
The possible causes include:
The z-axis motor is overheated.
There is a connection cable issue between the main control board and the z-axis motor.
The laser driver board inside the laser module malfunctions.
How To Fix It
#1 Cool the Z-axis Motor Down
Power the machine off.
Open the lid to better cool the z-axis motor down for about 5 mins.
After about 5 minutes of cooling, turn on the machine and run XCS to check if this issue still persists.
It is advisable to avoid operating M1 in a high-temperature environment to mitigate z-axis motor overheating.
If this issue continues, move to the next step.
#2 Secure the Z-axis Motor Cable
Check if the z-axis motor cable on the laser driver board inside the laser module (see the picture below) is loosely seated on the socket.
If so, reconnect the z-axis motor cable securely.
If this issue continues, proceed to the next step.
For more details, please see the video below:
#3 Replace the Laser Driver Board
When the laser driver board inside the laser module malfunctions, the laser module cannot move in the up-and-down direction either.
If the steps above do not work and the problem still persists, this may be the cause.
Contact the xTool Customer Service for a replacement of the laser driver board to replace the malfunctioning one.
