Issue description
When this issue happens, the safety lock fails to extend to lock into the hole in the lid.
If the device is connected with xTool Studio in the meantime, you may see a pop-up error message showing "Safety lock locking exception" like below.

Possible causes
- Sticker not removed
- Lid deformation during transportation
- Foreign object obstruction
- Safety lock failure
Troubleshooting procedures
1. Remove the sticker
Remove the sticker as shown, as it will hinder the proper securing of the safety lock into the hole on the lid.

2. Check the lid
Lid deformation prevents complete closure (as shown below).
You can refer to the following GIF for adjustment. However, make sure to place a soft material underneath to avoid scratching the enclosure:

3. Check for foreign objects
(1) Refer to the tutorials below to remove the left upper cover.
P2: Remove the Casing of xTool P2 Laser Engraver
P2S: Remove & Install the Left Plate for xTool P2S
(2) Check for any foreign objects around the safety lock and remove them.
4. Check the safety lock
(1) Turn off the power.
(2) Manually push the safety lock back and forth, and observe whether it extends and retracts smoothly. Under normal conditions, a noticeable resistance should be felt when the safety lock reaches a certain position during movement.
- If the safety lock remains stuck during extension and retraction, replace the safety lock.
- If the safety lock extends and retracts normally, continue troubleshooting other possible issues.
5. Test the safety lock
Note: This method applies to the P2 and P2S running firmware version 40.22.010 or earlier. If you want to use this method on a P2S with a firmware version later than 010, please refer to this article to downgrade the firmware: Downgrade Firmware for xTool P2S in xTool Studio
(1) Connect the device with a USB cable. Open the following links in a browser to control the safety lock. (Testing with the lid open is supported)
Unlock the safety lock (the lock should retract):
Lock the safety lock (the lock should extend):
(2) Check if you can control the safety lock as intended.
- If the safety lock cannot extend and retract properly, remove the left plate by following the tutorials below, then check the safety lock's connection cable and connector.
P2: Remove the Casing of xTool P2 Laser Engraver
P2S: Remove & Install the Left Plate for xTool P2S
- If the cable or connector is damaged, replace the safety lock.
- If the cable and connector are normal, continue troubleshooting other issues.
- If the safety lock can extend and retract normally, proceed to check the safety lock limit switch.
6. Check the safety lock limit switch (multimeter required)
(1) Refer to the figure below. Disconnect the limit switch connector ① and keep the safety lock in the locked position ② (extended).
(2) Set the multimeter to continuity mode and test the limit switch connector ③:
- If the multimeter does not beep (no continuity), the limit switch is faulty. Replace it.
- If the multimeter beeps (continuity detected), the limit switch is functioning normally. Reconnect the connector to the main control board, power on the device, and check whether the limit switch signal indicator changes when the safety lock extends and retracts (the indicator should turn on when the safety lock is unlocked):
- If the indicator does not turn on, replace the main control board.
- If the indicator turns on, check for other possible causes.
