This article applies to
xTool S1 with all laser modules.
When you use xTool S1 to cut some materials, the laser focus needs to be lowered for better cutting results. This article will introduce why and how to lower the focus.
You can find the function at the right side panel of the canvas after you select an element.
Note: The function "Lower the focus" on XCS can be enabled only in the Cut mode of vector image.
Laser engraving focuses the laser on the surface of the material to obtain the smallest spot size for fine engraving. However, laser cutting, especially for thicker materials, requires focusing the laser in the middle of the material to create a more even distribution of beam power density at the two surfaces, which improves the cutting ability of the laser.
The optimal distance for lowering the focus depends on a number of factors, including:
In most cases, lowering the focus by 3mm can improve the cutting effect. However, for some materials or applications, a different value may be required. It is important to experiment with different distances to find the best setting for your specific needs.
