Process materials with the ink module and fine-point blade

1. Connect xTool M1 Ultra to XCS

(1) Use the USB cable to connect xTool M1 Ultra to your computer. And turn on the device.

(2) Open XCS on your computer. On the top-right corner of XCS, click the + New project button.

 

(3)  On the upper right corner of XCS, click the Switch device / Connect device icon next to the device.

Click Connect device. Select the device to connect.

Note: If you have connected an xTool device in XCS before, move the mouse pointer to the device name and click Connect in the list.

2. Install the ink module and fine-point blade

(1)  Remove the front cover and lower cover of the ink module. 

 

(2) Press the button aside to open the access door.

(3) Remove the ink cartridge cover, and gently peel off the tape.

(4) Put the ink cartridge into the ink module and close the access door. 

💡 Note: Make sure the access door is locked in place.

(5) Put the lower cover back to the ink module.

(6) Align the slot of the ink module and the slot of the multi-function holder, slide the ink module, and install it on the multi-function holder.

(7) Toggle the locking bar to lock the ink module.

(8) Pull out the connector from the ink module and connect it to the port next to the multi-function holder.

(9) Put the front cover back to the ink module.

(10) Remove the cover of the basic carriage and put the fine-point blade into the basic carriage.

(11) Put the cover of the basic carriage back.

3. Calibrate before processing

(1) After you install the ink module, you need to calibrate it before processing. Click Start.

(2) Read the instructions and click Got it.

(3) Prepare items listed on the window. Make sure you prepare everything and click Ready. Next.

(4) Slide the placing board along the handle to fit it on the baseplate.

(5) Tear one piece of the cleaning sticker and place it on the placing board.

(6) Remove the lower cover from the ink module and place it on the placing board.

(7) Horizontally paste the cardboard on the cutting mat, aligning the top left corner of the cardboard with that of the cutting mat's grid. Close the lid and click Process.

After the auto-measured succeeded, press Start/Stop button on the device to start the calibration file.

(8) When the ink module inkjets a cross on the paper, manually move the ink module to make the red cross fall on and overlap with the cross.

 When the red cross falls on the cross processed, close the lid, and click Overlapped. Next.

(9) Place the triangular prism panel with limit blocks on the baseplate and place the 3 mm basswood on it as follows. 

Close the lid. Click Process.

After the auto-measured succeeded, press Start/Stop button on the device to start the calibration file.

(10) When the ink module inkjets a cross on the basswood board, manually move the ink module to make the red cross fall on and overlap with the cross.

When the red cross falls on the cross processed, close the lid, and click Confirm and upload.

(11) Calibration done.

4. Place the material

Open the lid of xTool M1 Ultra, place the cutting mat on the baseplate, and place the material on the cutting mat.

5. Select the processing mode and material name

(1) On the top of the canvas, select Multi-module processing as the processing mode.

(2) In the top right corner of User-defined material, select the name of your material and click Confirm

Click More xTool materials in the bottom left corner to search for more materials. If you can't find the name of your material, you can select User-defined material.

6. Design a processing object

Use the left-side tools to create objects on the canvas. 

  • For inkjet printing, import an image. Select the file and open it.
  • For the fine-point blade function, click the image, select More > Outline in the upper panel. Set the offset distance to 2 mm. Click Confirm.

7. Edit objects and set parameters

After you select a material on the material list or material library, the software will automatically set parameters for inkjet printing and fine-point blade. The default settings apply to xTool materials. You can adjust the settings based on your needs. If you select User-defined material, you need to set the processing parameters by yourself.

(1) Select one object (image) on the canvas, select Ink module, and set parameters for them.

You can further edit the objects by using the other features in the upper panel.

(2) Select another object (outline) on the canvas, select Fine-point blade, and set parameters for them.

💡 Note: You need to set parameters for every object. A missed object may fail to be processed.

8. Mark the processing area on the canvas

(1) On the upper toolbar, click the flag to mark the processing area.

(2) Select a marking mode based on the shape of the target processing area, and click Start marking.

And you can see the pop-up window.


(3) Manually move the laser module to make the red cross spot fall at a vertex of the target processing area, and press the Point marking button on the device to record the position. 

Then, repeat the same steps to record the other required vertex(es) for the target processing area.

 

(4) Make sure two points are marked. Click End marking > Done, and then the target processing area will be marked out on the canvas.

9. Preview the processing area

(1) At the bottom right corner of XCS, click the   icon next to the framing button to set the framing speed.

(2) Click Framing and Press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start framing. 

(3) After you confirm that the processing area is proper, click Framing completed in XCS. 

10. Start processing

(1) On the bottom right corner of the software, click Go to Process.

(2) Check whether the accessories or modules are prepared before processing.

(3) Preview the processing pattern and path.

On the bottom-left corner, click the button, and XCS will show you the processing path.

(4) In the upper right corner of XCS, click Start to start processing.

(5) When everything is ready, the device measures the distance automatically. Press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start processing.

11. Switch to the laser module processing

(1) Click Next to enter the laser module processing.

(2) Check the list and prepare the module to be processed.

12. Remove the ink module and install the laser module

(1) Put the lower cover back to the ink module and remove the front cover.

(2) Disconnect the ink module cable from the holder and fit it to the slot.

(3) Put the front cover on the ink module and toggle the locking bar and unlock the ink module. 

(4) Remove the ink module from the multi-function holder and install the laser module on it.

(5) Toggle the locking bar to lock the laser module.

13. Start processing for the laser module

(1) Close the lid of xTool M1 Ultra.

(2) Click Switch to switch to the laser module processing.

 

(3) In the upper right corner of XCS, click Start2/2 to start processing.

 

(4) When everything is ready, the device measures the distance automatically. Press the button on xTool M1 Ultra to start processing.
