Dimi Ganchev
Hi everyone,
I thought I'd do a quick introduction.
I'm Dimi (Dimitar), originally from Bulgaria. At 23, I packed my bags and moved to the UK, where I met my wife and spent many wonderful years building a life together. Career-wise, I started as a Network Engineer before deciding that life wasn't exciting enough, so I joined the largest police force in the UK—the Metropolitan Police Service in London.
Then my wife had what she called a "brilliant idea" to move back home to the USA. She took the kids, I followed, and somehow we all ended up living in New York. Funny how that works! A little while later, we packed up once again and moved to Houston, Texas, where we now call home. Apparently, moving countries and continents has become a family hobby.
A little about my background
Creativity runs in the family. Both of my parents are artists. My mother is an incredibly talented stained-glass artist and, as far as I know, the only woman in the Balkans to create an entire stained-glass cathedral by herself. My father is one of the country's most respected icon painters.
So, naturally, I've always had one foot in the creative world as well.
Many years ago, I worked with some of Bulgaria's largest graphic design agencies, creating advertising campaigns for brands such as Danone, Rioba, and several other well-known Bulgarian companies.
Around eight years ago, I also owned a photography business and ran workshops across the UK and Bulgaria. I was fortunate to serve as an official ambassador for a leading photography lighting brand and even published two professional photography magazines that reached an international audience.
I also spend far too much time in the UV printing world. I currently own two UV printers and am just about to pull the trigger on a third one that's supposedly a huge upgrade over what I already have. I'll reserve judgment until I actually see it, though, because if there's one thing I've learned, it's that UV printing is less of a hobby and more of an adventure... usually one that involves troubleshooting at 2 a.m.!
I have extensive experience with UV printing and enjoy experimenting with different materials, applications, and techniques, so I'm always happy to exchange ideas and learn from others in the community.
Education & what's next
I've always believed that learning should never stop.
Studied Information Technologies at university in Bulgaria.
Earned a Graphic Design degree from a Greek college.
Graduated in Criminology from Birkbeck, University of London.
And because I apparently don't know how to relax, I'm about to start a Master's degree in Criminal Psychology—a subject that has fascinated me for years.
I've been lucky enough to work in technology, law enforcement, design, photography, and now UV printing, and I genuinely enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and learning from their experiences.
So, that's me and a little (probably completely unnecessary) information about my life. 😇😂
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and being part of the community!
